Downers Grove, Illinois SperlingViews

I lived in Downers Grove all of my life. My family has lived in Downers Grove since it was founded. It is sad to see what it has become these last 20 years. It has become crowded, expensive, gangs, crime. We had generations living in one place now we have people from the city moving in. We have the rich and the poor not to many in between. It use to be middle income families living in Downers Grove. Drugs and Money is what it has become. It is a real shame.

I will have to completely disagree with Beverly's comments on Downers Grove and ask, "does she even live in this town anymore?" While it's true that Downers Grove is becoming more expensive and many of the new houses are not affordable for low and even some middle income families, I find the comments about gangs and drugs to be completely untrue. I feel safe walking around any area of Downers Grove and believe the town is very safe, fun and great for families and kids. The schools (especially North) are outstanding and the downtown area has gotten some nice stores, restaurants and bars. This town is so much better than some of the new "cookie cutter" areas. Even with the increase in tear-downs, you can still walk around and see homes from all periods. For the most part (and of course with some exceptions), people keep their areas neat and the town is clean and safe. Maybe Beverly should walk around a little more.[read more...]
