We will be moving to south Florida sometime shortly after first of 2012. We just can't decide exactly where. We are a couple in our middle 50"s, like to shop, eat & sight see. We have never been to south Florida before, that is why we are having trouble trying to decide where to move. We will not be buying property, will want to lease a nice condo/townhouse etc... Looking at maybe Sunrise, Plantation, Miramar, Pemebrooke Pines or surrounding communities. Would love to hear comments on any of these areas.

Climate - 1/30/2009

The climate in Sunrise, Fl is wonderful. We can go swimming before May, usually during Spring Break as long as we don't (yes, as we Florida's call it) get a cold front. It may not be cold to Northerner's, however once you get used to the extra long summers in South Florida, 65 degrees feels "chilly".[read more...]

Crime in Sunrise is not reflective of your records - 12/24/2008

I have lived in Sunrise, Florida since 1961, I recently moved however, my parents still live in the same house. My father was robbed at gunpoint at the front door of the house, my son was held up at gunpoint at the Bank of America, my daughter at 9 had a gun pulled on her, my son again was kidnapped at 12 at gunpoint, robbed and left to walk home from a few miles from home. Turns out the guy that robbed him killed an employee of Miami Subs on University Dr. We found out from the Lauderhill police department knocking on our door at 4.00 am after they found my son's stolen property at the site which the gunman dropped. My parents just this year have had their home broken into and robbed of all quick sellable gold, jewels, gems, coins. They didn't get into the safe, but give them a couple of months and while my parents were gone on vacation they came back with a professional apparently who broke into the safe and stold the rest of the family heirlooms. What have the wonderful cops of the city of Sunrise done. NOTHING. No follow-ups to anything. Crime is NOT reported propertly or followed up with and if you are thinking of moving to Sunrise, I would advise strongly against it. Sunrise is a huge Ghetto with the Ghetto of Lauderhill backing it up. Check out Lauderhill's crime stat's. Stay AWAY from SUNRISE unless your a thief.[read more...]

South Florida Living - 5/2/2006

If you like an active life with all the amenities (hockey, baseball, football, basketball, opera, ballet, broadway shows, the beach, shopping, etc.) it is all here. You can be as busy as you want or just sit in the sun and enjoy the beautiful weather. In Sunrise, the older areas are great neighborhoods with friendly neighbors, mixed ages, and ethnic backgrounds. You find neighbors helping neighbors in these areas. The older homes are a tad cheaper and smaller than the newer subdivisions, but they have character and are much more individualized. The convenience to all the cultural events is a great plus and you sports buff will have enough to keep them busy. There are resaurants galore in the area. Miami and Palm Beach are both close and many people commute to both cities. I find the area unstressful and fun. If you ride a motorcycle, there are multiple day trips available, including Lake Okechobee (great fishing there), Naples (nice resaurants) and the Keys...a fun place to go. It is an ideal place to get out of the cold and enjoy life. The housing market is slowing so the prices of homes is stablizing. Most profit taking has been done and it is going towards a buyer's market. Sunrise taxes are less than several other cities in the area with tons of extras for city residents (ie: city trams, fireworks for 4th of July, parks, activities, senior center, children activies, good schools, close to colleges, and many more)Sawgrass Outlet Mall and the ice hockey stadium are located in the city with many activies available at both places.[read more...]

Housing - 12/28/2005

Very large retirement community in the North Central Parts of the City. Many inexpensive 80s vintage condo units for the 55 and older people. South and West areas are new and typical suburban tract houses 2000 to 4000 and up sq foot. Plenty of good jobs including part time retail[read more...]
