Boynton Beach is a beautiful city. Unfortunately, crime rates have increased severely through the past few years. The people here are also very unfriendly for the most part. If you move here don't expect to talk to people often or have many friends.

I would recommend renting here instead of buying to see if it's the city for you.

comment on snother's review of escalating cost of - 7/16/2009

Responding to the comment about the escalating costs in Boynton Beach, FL, from the writer who moved there from CT.....We are looking fwd to retiring there in 2-3 years for a relief from the extraordinary costs associated with our present (and past 6 yrs residence)location on Long Is., NY. We will be able to easily live on 1/3 of our current needs here in NY. The writer should consider moving to NM, as our daughter will be doing shortly, coming from Seattle. Her costs will be 20% lower there than in WA state. Just don't try to live in downtown Santa Fe.[read more...]

West Palm Beach Metro area General Review by 17 ye - 5/4/2008

I'll start with the good stuff. The weather is great year round. Yes, summers are hot but we do have A/C. If you truly aren't heat tolerant then stay away. Otherwise you have year round outdoor activities. You will never run out of things to do. There is everything under the sun here in this area. Culture, pro sports, night life , rec activities, concerts, fairs, museums etc. May have to drive a bit to get to these activities but not that far. The beaches are beautiful and varied, each beach sort of has it's own personality. Great place for boating lifestyle, obviously. The not so good: It is crowded here. There are people everywhere and then some. You will never be "alone". Contrary to popular belief there are some friendly people here. It's just that there is a stress level here that is high. Everyone seems "on edge". One of the main reasons I moved here (1990) was affordable housing. That is long gone. Even if prices crash more it will still be pricey for "working people". If you have a good career and make good money you're ok here but it's still pricey and stressful. Overpopulation is a Paradise Killer though.[read more...]

Wonderful Weather - 3/22/2008

Boynton Beach FL has great weather. It's a little warmer in July and Aug. (in the high 80s and sometimes 90s) but the rest of the year is great. I've found other parts of the country are warmer in the summer, into the 100s. There is almost always a breeze off the ocean so the air is not stagnant. Jan thru March is the best time of year. It's cooler (60s to 75) and rains more. We are having a drought now (3/2008) so the rain is welcome.[read more...]

Housing - 7/4/2007

We bought our house 2 years ago during "the rush" and watched as the apprasied value went up a full 15% in the next six months. Now, we've come all the way back down and people have sold next door to me for about 5% less than what we've bought. Things are not good now to sell - to buy, this seems like your market to cash in. Most people think it will level off and rise in the next 6 months again slowly - let's see....[read more...]

Insurance, Tax's and the $240.00 per sq foot make - 12/1/2006

I moved from Glastonbury CT in 1993 when I found the beatuful city of Boynton Beach. The town is very up-scale has youth football and softball teams, great parks new schools, it's clean, very pritty, young and alive with children. (could use a night club) Over the past 2 years however the tax's on our 1200 sq foot home went through the roof $3400.00 and our home owners insurance went from $1400.00 a year to $4900.00. With only a single insurance company that will cover homes in this zip code as POW and others went chapter 7 do to the storms. Homes are also very over priced at $240.00 a sq foot. We have now listed our house for sale, however do to the amount of people now moving out, and the 6 homes listed on our short street, it could be a while.[read more...]

Love it here but will probably leave due to cost o - 8/31/2006

I moved to Boynton Beach and purchased a home in June 2004. My equity jumped $143,000 in 2 years. That's the good news. The bad news is property tax and insurance has skyrocketed as well. It is expensive to live here. The crime rate has also increased. Many people are moving away because of the high expense, the hurricanes, and crime. I'll probably sell my home and move as soon as the housing market makes an upward swing.[read more...]

The cost of housing is going to the moon. - 9/20/2005

This use to be a nice quiet area with relatively affordable housing. I bought my villa/townhouse a year ago and it has appreciated in value over $100,000. That's great for me, but I feel for those coming into the market here. The median home is over $400,000 in this area. Your current data on this site is a little off and needs to be updated, but in all fairness the market is moving fast.[read more...]
