Mount Vernon is a small but growing multicultural urban community in south Westchester County, NY. It's residents range in socioeconomic status, backgrounds, and religion. While some areas are experiencing economic revitalization, some remain depressed with high crime rates. Schools in the area are generally well maintained and competitive performance rates and sports programs. Property taxes are high. Jobs and recreational sites are limited, but many attractions are located just minutes away in New York City and nearby Westchester County towns like Pelham, Yonkers, New Rochelle, and White Plains.[read more...]

| City of cloudy days for now i hope - 8/15/2006
It seems like it is nothing to do in the city limits of Mount Vernon no mall,no entertainment,no zest,no skyscrapers,no museums,a dull decayimg library.I jus am not understanding why the mayor or any other city officials can't jus group together and tackle these promblems that have plague the city for decades now.Crime is on the rise cause these people cant find jobs or take care of their families its sad it really is and hard too.It makes me angry that we have a good for nothin mayor yuck.[read more...]

| A doomed future - 8/15/2006
I lived in the city of Mount Vernon for much of my life and im 19 now this city has no future of economic development unless the city gets rid of this good 4 nothin mayor that is not doing his mayoral duties he is not providing jobs,entertainment,or a better image for the city of Mount Vernon it is a disgrace.I see neighboring communities like New Rochelle,White Plains,and Yonkers progressing everyday in economic development but what does this Mayor have going on for this city nothing.It jus doesn't take the stroke of a pen to make things happen you have to actually do it.I say the city needs a new mayor and a new image.[read more...]
