Overcrowded Schools - 3/26/2006

The schools are filled to the bursting point due to the large number of Bay Area people who have settled their families here while they continue to commute 2 hours each way over the mountains to their jobs. Year round track systems exist in all the schools save one, even the JH. The HS was built to hold 1400 and now 'houses' 3400. Classes are at capacity in all schools Voters continue to refuse to fund Bonds to build more schools

A horrible place - 1/7/2013

It always starts out as a great place to raise children, a small, quaint town full of activities for the kids. You can sign your kids up in PAL(Police Athletic League) and you can choose from upwards of 5 k-6 schools, private and public. But then they grow up. And they are faced every day with peer pressure to do drugs, drink, join gangs, and bully. The high school, LBHS, given a little less crowded since the building of the other high school, is a very dark and dismal place. The teachers do not care about bullying and they do not care if their students learn. It, of course, has a few good teachers but if your child is not in their class I can guarantee they while hate their school life. Weed is the drug of choice in Los Banos for teenagers and the social norm is to hate another group of teenagers. Since the town does not have remotely ANYTHING to interest teenagers, besides a single movie theater, the kids have drunken parties every weekend. Also, there are NO JOBS! Your teenager will not be off to a good start here in this town. This town is a close-minded, hillbilly town that gets its kicks out of duck hunting and commuting to a place where they actually have jobs. In conclusion, great place for kids, yes, but you should move once your child turns 10, before they enter middle school(there's only ONE of those! and it's overflowing with kids). Do not subject your teenagers to this death hole of self esteem and lost opportunity.[read more...]
