| Great Place to Live...but I wonder - 4/14/2008
I've been here since early 2004 and I love it. Commute time is WAY OFF though - 30 min would not get you far. Consider 45 min on the 101 into Tempe, 1 hour plus on the I-10. To downtown Phoenix or up to 6 or 7 miles north of downtown Phx - would take 1 hour & 10 min or 1 hour & 15 min. The I-10 is dreadfully slow. Forget the 101 if you have to go downtown because it does not veer West. Depending on what you do, clerical work is probably nearby but most good jobs are not, not in the legal field, that is for sure. I am shocked to learn that the air is so bad. I thought it would be better this far from the City. I have known for a long time that the HOA does not meet the age requirements i.e. 20% under (I don't recall what it is) and I haven't seen any 19 year olds - the minimum age to occupy one of our homes. However, nobody has ever taken a census at our home so I know your figure is not up to date. There is a 40s and 50s Club and numerous activities, tennis courts, lakes for walking dogs, and it's a very quiet place. I like it here. Most of the neighbors are very nice. Who is doing something about our air quality? Is anyone doing anything, anyone in a position to do anything? What can we do? Does anyone know?[read more...]

| Summer in Arizona - 12/22/2007
I moved to Arizona in the late 1970s. We enjoy over 300 days a year of clear sunny, cloudless days. Over the years the driving congestion from growth and the landscaping of plants not native to the Sonora desert is playing havoc on allergy sufferers.[read more...]

| Great Place to Retire! - 11/23/2007
If you like to golf, hangout at the country club and play bridge, tennis or swim in a small town with no children around except for holiday season then this is the place for you! Sun Lakes subdivisions have 4 country clubs. Phase two is Cottonwood Club and that is were many of the clubs are located and the best pool. There is what appears to be a fine Jewelrey making studio/club and several other clubs located here. The weather is Sunny, dry and Super hot in the summer. Many residents take off for several weeks in the summer so it gets super quiet then. There is not much in the way of Arts or music here but Phoenix is close and there is a lot to do if you want to trek to the city( not that far). Chandler the town next door is booming and lots of shopping is going in. Taxes are low compared to out east or the midwest. It's a great town for age 55 and up. We have had a second home there for 5 years. Stephanie R[read more...]
