| I moved to Mukwonago 12 years ago to get away from the city but the last 5 years this little village is exploding. It seems as if many people are moving here and bringing the city with them. I will be leaving shortly!

| Growing, but not a bad place to live! - 5/3/2009
Some have complained that this town is growing too fast. It has seen some growth in recent years. But because there are more stores there is also more convenience. (I guarantee no one complains when gas prices are insanely high that they don't have to drive far to get most things they need.) There are more houses now than when I came here a decade ago. But it's not like there are too many people or a crowded feel to the town. I do hope there are no more new stores or subdivisions built. We have enough and still have a small town. Also, the crime here is very low. I feel safe and I like that![read more...]

| Nice town about 14 years ago,but that's progress f - 11/15/2006
moved here from Illinois about 15 years ago and fell in love with Mukwonago right from the very start. It was charming, affordable, and only 32 miles away from Milwaukee by highway. Taxes were low compared to other areas and the little parades and fests here were right up my alley. Fast forward 15 years and now I find the real estate to be bordering on ridiculous, especially since the low interest rates of post 9-11 took hold. My first house was bought for 100,000 and 4 years later it is worth 200,000. Please keep in mind it is only 1250 sqr feet! Ridiculous. Secondly, all the people who got tired of the crowded over developed city life of West Allis and Milwaukee have come here and started overdeveloping this area. Now we have very little trees or open green spaces, everything is a huge big-box retailer and all the little nice things that attracted people to his area seem to be gone. Also, let me make a comment about Wisconsin weather: If you like = A. 6-7 months of grey winter skies and 40 degree weather this is your spot. B. What spring we have, it rains 80-90 percent of the time so don't even think about trying to enjoy it. C. Summer is a joke, litterally 20-30 nice days out of the 4 summer months exist, all others will be rainy,or have potential for severe storms. Now a word about the job market. If you are not a white collar medical or legal professional you will have an extremely hard time making a go of it here. The bussiness tax climate have pushed out every hourly wage job that made this state famous to areas like Indiana or Texas. My job will soon be next more than likely. Skilled trades are also in decline here. We barely brew beer here anymore and our famous Harley brand, workers there had to take a 9 dollar an hour cut in pay just to keep the factory here. Amazingly though, taxes are skyrocketing and property values keep climbing. Not sure how that could happen in a dying job market. After 30+ years in the midwest I am now contemplating moving to a more southern state, not sure which one yet but I know I'm sick of it here.[read more...]
