Review of Fort Worth, Texas

Small town feeling in a Great City
Star Rating - 7/18/2013
We moved to Fort Worth last year after living in several different cities across the country over the past 20 years. Like so many folks we'd been looking for the small town with city amenities. Our moves were all corporate transfers. So we were completely amazed to land here and find that this is what we'd been looking for. The city has a great outdoor trail system, an arts scene, lots of restaurants, great public transportation, and short commute times. The weather is hot in the summer months, but the rest of the year makes up for it. Now to be clear I am not talking about living out in the suburbs but in the city. What makes Fort Worth special for us is the Fairmount Historic District. This is our home. This is a neighborhood where people porch sit and share conversation with their neighbors. Where young families are moving in to give that small town experience to their children. The homes are from the early 1900s and because it is an historic district many people move here to restore these old gems. We can walk to shops, restaurants, bars, and grocery stores. Our neighborhood has a little library, an arts center, and a community garden complete with chickens. As I would meet neighbors all would share the same sentiment that this feels like a "real" neighborhood, a place these people plan to call home. Here an evening walk can turn into a gathering of neighbors to chat or a spell on the porch sharing a bottle of wine. The down side is the same of any city experience. Some homes are in disrepair and need restoration. There is the occasional property crime. Nothing that detracts from my experience of living here. I sit on my porch and see people working in their gardens, walking, biking, jogging, pushing their babies in strollers down the street, waving and saying hello to one another and restoring beautiful old homes. This is a vibrant community, one I wanted to share with those of you who have been searching for that special place to call home.
