frederick is overcrowded, overpriced, and seems for lack of a better term a redneck attempt at a dc subburb. it doesnt really seem like a city allow so many think that it is. jobs are ok, but only if you commute to frederick as they dont pay enough to afford the housing. there is also no flow to how things are placed in frederick and its just like a massive cluster of old crusty town and new all thrown together and passed off as culture and smart growth. when is actuality it lacks anything to set it apart from any other town near dc. I would recommend hagerstown, md if you wanna live in Maryland. Its always has more a city feel and is experience rapid growth and has more shopping and dinning than frederick. and is more convienient to pa, nova and WV. plus hagerstown has a more impressive downtown that feels more like a city. and the housing in hagerstown costs about half of what frederick's is. And hagerstown is only 16 miles west of frederick on I-70 or rt. 40.

Nothing to do but eat - 11/22/2010

I lived in Frederick for 10 years and it was sooo boring. I gained weight because there is literally nothing to do but go out to eat at restaurants. No indoor play areas for kids except for chuckee cheese, ugh. I couldn't wait to get out of there![read more...]

Islam - 10/10/2008

I used your website for a paper that I am writing on Frederick County and was sad to see that since it was updated on 10/7/08 that the % of people that participate in the islamic religion is 0%. How sad to think that we are so narrowed minded when Frederick County has one of the largest islamic communities with a mosque for prayer that was purchased 3 years ago. The Islamic community has made headlines so many times in the Frederick News Post and there are a number of muslim doctors in the community. To say that there is "0.00% affilite with Islam" is totally wrong. Its time people learnt to accept one another.[read more...]

Frederick, MD - 1/15/2007

Wonderful city large enough to have all you want with the convience of a small town atmosphere. Three major airport all within an hours drive, outstanding medical facilities in a 50 miles radius. Lots to see and do in the D.C./Balimore area. Wonderful four seasons. Drawbacks include cost of housing which is high. Increasing traffic makes rush hour even in Frederick a problem.[read more...]

Great town, cheaper housing than D.C, but great do - 6/7/2006

Great town. Within an hours drive of D.C. and Baltimore (depending on traffic!), at the apex of the two roads between them. Best of both worlds with a small town feel, but great downtown flair with shops and restaurants. A beautiful parklike setting downtown with waterfront restaurants. Great for families too...within 15 minutes of tons of state parks, close to the "country" atmosphere with mountain views, yet with an urban feel downtown if you'd prefer.[read more...]

Poor Infrastructure - 6/3/2006

Frederick has experienced massive growth in the past two decades. The result is overcrowded schools, inflated housing costs, and congested roads. There are very few decent-paying jobs in Frederick, and most work is found down I-270 in the Rockville/Bethesda/D.C. area. If you're considering moving here to work in these places, be prepared to spend many hours sitting in traffic. A 30 mile commute can sometimes take as much as 2.5 hours. Unfortunately, there are no viable alternative routes, and the primary alternate routes are just as clogged as the interstates. Public transportation is underfunded, inefficient, and unreliable.[read more...]

Too expensive, too busy - 3/17/2006

We lived in Frederick for almost 3 years. It has everything, and it's close to DC and Baltimore. But it's quite crowded, and traffic is TERRIBLE! It has become a suburb of DC, and to commute takes forever. Even to go from one side of town to the other is a hassle. Also, property is outrageously expensive. Other than that, if you have lots of money and don't mind traffic, it's not bad.[read more...]
