| Unparalleled quality of life! - 5/28/2012
Annapolis, Md is a place hidden in plane site. As if people not in the know are ignorant of it's value. Annapolis is host to many attractions, including the Naval Academy, the downtown Historic district and the bay. Truth is there are so many things to do here you'll not be bored much. Annapolis is the kind of place where you live your whole life, somewhere where you feel welcome whoever you are. We have a vast array of wealth and poverty, it's quite an odd mix for such a some town (population of around 40,000).
Here you'll find social elites and social misfits. It's all about what neighborhood you live in, although real estate is on the higher end (the average home is valued at $700,000)you'll find that there is some poverty, mostly due to many housing projects, there are exactly six government owned housing projects within the city of Annapolis. But anyways you'll find that Annapolians are a quite bespoke kind of people, were born and bread the play Lacrosse, were born with a Lacrosse stick in one hand and a crab net in the other. We drive Mercs and Beamers and live in waterfront homes. You don't have to be rich to live here in Annapolis, you just have to be rich to experience the wonders of Maryland's capital. [read more...]

| Running and Cycling - 6/5/2011
If you are a runner or a cyclist, Annapolis and its surrounding areas (mostly to the South like Harwood, Edgewater, etc) offer very good choices to enjoy the sports.
Drive south on MD Rt 2 a few miles (5 or 7) and you will find a network of roads set in a rural environment (I'm talking about just you, green farmland and the cows on a Summer morning...) where you can run or cycle till your heart is content. There is very little traffic and the drivers of the few cars that you encounter are courteous and mindful of your safety. Enjoy![read more...]

| Disappointment - 3/22/2010
We moved to Annapolis a little over two years ago and I must say it has not been as good as I hoped. There is a huge huge income disparity, it is not integrated at all and there are projects all over the city. The historical buildings and potential of the town are marred by strip malls and terrible civil engineering.
We send our son to the only good public school in the city as we want him to be well rounded but as it is the only good school the children are all spoiled brats and the houses in that area are all over priced. We are both from what people consider expensive areas in the North but what you get for your money there compared to here is astounding. Where $800,000 would buy you a beautiful historical house with a nice yard in New England, here it buys you a new poorly made house on a tenth of an acre.
This is a beautiful city but it is NOT for everyone so do your research before moving here! Oh and the drivers are horrendous. They don't understand the concept of a fast lane and merging is an impossible feat.[read more...]

| Great quality of life - 5/18/2009
Wonderful opportunities for folks who live in 'water priviliged' or water access communities around Annapolis. The Chesapeake bay is beautiful year-round, but you need to live in a neighborhood that has water access, because fewer than 5% of the Bay's shoreline miles are publicly owned.[read more...]

because so many people are transient. They invite you to go for a sail or play tennis immediately. It is very expensive to live in Annapolis. I have lived in New Hampshire where people are not friendly and consider you an "outsider" if you weren't born there. Annapolis is beautiful and social.[read more...]

Somehow I doubt that the median price for a home in annapolis is $675K or that the cost of living is more than 40% above the U.S. average. What sources do you use? My sources are "just paying asttention" and I am sure I have a wide margin of error on some things. DH[read more...]

Annapolis is a historic, beautiful and friendly place to live. It has all of the cultural and educational opportunities one could ask for. The one drawback is the cost of living and especially housing. Recreational with the water so near is amazing. It truly is a wonderful place to live but costly if you are on a fixed income.[read more...]

| Housing Cost in Annapolis - 2/10/2008
We have lived in the same house since 1981 and have seen its value increase fivefold. Our neighborhood (Hillsmere) is delightful, with a beach and a marina. Next door is Quiet Waters Park, one of the largest green spaces in the county. The problem is that we would pay more to downsize than we now owe. Also, our grown children cannot afford to buy a house in the area, even with good jobs.[read more...]

| Long Winter - 7/4/2007
Annapolis is a quaint small city on a lovely water privelaged area surrounded by rolling hills and bridges that frequently surprise you with a beeutiful view of the water and bay. The summer months fill the area with lots of greenery and lush leaves that take your breath away amist the water and boating background. The city center has a romantic/quaint "foot friendly" walking area that is know to have dog bowls outside of many buisines. The general area is hard too beat in the summer as is evedent by it's many events and visitors. If winter or a long season without leaves and an occasional snowfall does not bother you, this lovely small capitol might be right up your boating alley.[read more...]

| Newlyweds and LOVING IT! - 6/25/2007
I absolutely love this area! I am someone who needs water, shopping, great seafood, history, and nice people. This place has it all. I get joy just driving over the Bay Bridge. This place is close to DC, choose between BWI airport or Reagan International, the mountains of West Virginia, or the vineyards of Virginia. So many great schools around. Many reviews say people drive expensive cars but that must be their crowd because this is truly a humble place. I never feel the pressure of cliques or money. I guess its how you make it. For me and my husband and dog its great. There is a wonderful dog park divided for large dogs and small and older dogs. Its perfect. If you are trying to decide between Baltimore and Annapolis, go to the latter. Its a diamond in the rough. Anyone can make fast friends and you beat all the traffic and horrible parking in Baltimore. I see myself here for a long time.

Historic Annapolis was the nations capitol in 1783-1784. I have spent 25 years of my life here and I love it! Believe it or not there is a friendly person within the crowd of yuppies. I have the time of day and it's happy hour at the city docks. If you're considering moving here, I would love to help you better understand the Waterfront and where to live. | Annapolis Overall - 7/11/2006
I have lived in Annapolis for almost 10 years. It's a great place to raise a family. The public middle shools are not that great here, however. While the teachers are fabulous, most middle class+ families send thier children to private school. This is too bad as the 2 middle schools could really improve if more people chose to send their children there. There is a lot of culture around. The town has great history involving its relationship with the Chesapeake. It also offers great opportunities to learn about the environment as well as cultural arts. The town does have a very small feel. This could be a negative to those who expect it to have the ammenities most capital cities offer as it does not. It is very humid here all year round. And when the heat comes in the summer, it's pretty bad with the mosquitos and the humid heat![read more...]
