Best kept secret

My guy friend and I are looking for a beautiful place to buy land for our retirement.We have lived in Colorado for a long time and yet had never explored the Fort Garland, Costilla county area. We took a trip there this weekend and were pleasantly surprised at the beauty there. The economy is depressed and the growth is negative right now, but, I can see this as a great area for people who want a great qualty of life after they retire.
It is near some bigger towns and only an hour away from Taos, a most desireable place.
We are very much considering this "sleeper" area of our favorite stae, Colorado.
