The most beautiful place I ever seen. - 7/7/2011

I was visiting Oregon last month in the middle of June and its was a wonderful vacation and its was my second time I have been to Oregon. I have visited all the big cities and visited all the coastal towns along the coast and its was just beautiful, its so green and many differents kinds of tall evergreen trees everywhere. The weather was awesome very cool and a very few showers around but its wasn't long lasting showers, most of time the sky was partly cloudy to clear skies. While visiting Oregon I was also visiting northern California and its was very nice in Northern California but Oregon has nicer small towns along the coast, but I love those huge redwood trees in california. Oregon and northern California looks very much alike. Washington state was very nice too very much like Oregon. There is so much to do in Oregon for example, hiking, camping, bike riding, and a lot of sight seeing. I am thinking about moving to Eugene Or in a few years because I want to get away from Texas heat and drought problems. Texas has a lot of problems with crimes. Oregon may not be perfect but the crime is a lot lowered in Oregon. The people in Oregon seem to be so nice too and not like the people in Texas where they are rude and snotty here in Texas. Well I will have to visit oregon more often if I want to move there and this was my second time I visit Oregon so I feel good about moving there because I have already love it there. Oregon is probably the most favorite state I ever visited,California and Colorado is my second favorite state I visited. Its very likely I might moved to Eugene Or in a few years because of very nice comfortable summer. I understand that Nov to march can be very wet but that okay because that what makes Oregon so beautiful and green. I will visit Oregon again soon and I recommend for people to visit Oregon if they want to get away from hot weather and to see all the beautiful sight seeing and visit all the nice small towns along the coast. The western parts of Oregon has a lot of tall trees and very green. The eastern part of Oregon is drier with less trees but that far away from the coast and close to Idaho is Desert. So its very interesting to see all the different enviroment and how its change from west to east. Anyway I recommend Oregon because of cooler summer weather and a lot of things to do.

"Oregon Is "O"verated!" - 2/18/2014

I am originally born on the East Coast. I never felt at home there. However.. being from the East Coast, I didn't want to head all the way South, because of how different the people are from the East and West Coast. I didn't think I would adjust or fit in. I always wanted to move to California, but had heard you don't just move there unless you can afford to move and live there. I almost bought a beautiful manufactured home up in Norther California (Colefax) area, not far from Sacramento or San Fransisco. I heard the weather all year long was "perfect". The deal fell through and I was now faced with a limited amount of time to move from WI., where I had lived for eight years. I did not want to fear tornado's or 3 feet of snow and a foot sheets of ice any longer after last winter. I grew up with snow and don't mind it now and again a few inches. Someone told me to look into RV rentals. I never heard of this being from the East Coast. Even the Mid West does not have the RV population which is extreme that Oregon has. Especially on the Coast. I found a great..."So I Thought deal for $350.00 a month. I just had to pay electric. Free water, sewer, trash and Wi Fi. I packed in the car and headed off to Florence Oregon with my two dogs. Well.. now I regret it. I ended up in a bind once there. The beauty of the outside of Oregon and the trip there was breath taking. I admit this. The state does have its beauty that is for sure. However.. the constant never ending rain cycle is the cause of that beauty. There is a sign when you come into Oregon, "Enjoy Oregon Then Go Home" This is how the Oregonians are and think. The people here are standoffish, non trusting and had many times questioned my being there and trying to divert me back to the Mid West or East Coast. Many themselves are transplants, yet don't like outsiders moving there. They by far are not friendly people. The homeless population that you see and meth labs are many here. I know this from someone whom had experiences this on her property and when she went to the Sheriff to deal with it, they commented it is too wide spread here, we can't unless there is a fatality then they step in. The jobs here are not many and part time work is all that is offered. Snow.. can be brushed off. Rain drenches you. Snow adds to the beauty of your surroundings, rain does not. It makes for a miserable, dreary ugly day. My dogs hate it and they loved the snow and to play in it. Like kids do. Over here.. your stepping i

A town where people don't shower and are incredibl - 9/15/2013

I've finally left Portland after being seduced by the NY Times articles and short visits to check it out. Boy was I duped. I quickly grew tired of the phony shop keepers asking me about my weekend plans--you don't know me and why would you care? Tired of the icy coldness of the general public--unless your a "Proud Oregionian" they would much prefer you not move to their state. I grew tired of being asked why I moved there and fear that I might be taking a job away from one of their own. Guess what? I wasn't taking your job. I brought my own. I ate in your restaurants and hired your people. I paid property taxes and contributed to your overall economy. I'm educated with a post-graduate degree. I shower and I have all of my teeth (meth addicts everywhere). I qyuickly grew weary of the holier than though Christian fundamentalists. I've never seen so many businesses advertise the scriptures on their websites. The incidence of DUIs was appalling. I felt like I was in the Ozarks for much of the time. Portland thinks they are a big city with world class restaurants. That is laffable. No, I dont like bone marrow ice cream. Good riddance Portland. I'm heading home where the people have brain cells, shower and smile and mean it. Oh, and the majority have their teeth.

Moving from Texas to Oregon - 9/7/2012

I am fed up with Texas, the weather, the people, every last bit of it, so My husband and I have decided to move, we had considered Florida at first. However I quickly changed my mind to Oregon after my husband had mentioned it to me, I started looking online and immediately fell in love with it, absolutely beautiful. Now we had considered living on the coast but also are considering the Portland area, He is a licensed Crematory Operator and I am finishing school to be a Paralegal. What is the crime like near Portland? Are there jobs available? I read something about not being able to pump your own gas, is this true?? Also What about state taxes as in Texas we don't pay state taxes. We are planning on taking a trip up there for a much needed vacation, just the two of us but also we are going to be checking out the areas, jobs houses etc... Please any information is welcome, and any helpful websites also. Thanks!!!!

Oregon Central Coast - 7/7/2012

The Oregon Central Coast is a beautiful, economical place to live. In the rural areas most residences have their own water via wells, and their own septic systems. This reduces monthly expenses. In the last three years Elkton, Drain, Scottsburg have all gained internet and cell phone accessibilty. Elkton has fabulous Charter Schools where the students have small classes and receive the education they deserve. Reedsport also has Charter Schools. The climate in the summer is fabulous, no bugs, no humidity and great for growing vegetable gardens in Scottsburg, Elkton and Drain. July through October is full on Sun. November you can count on rain, December and January are dry but cool, the end of February through April is generally rainy, then May and June have alternating rain one week, sun the next. I have lived here for 12 years. Clean air, clean water, with many opportunities for biking, hiking, fishing, crabbing and camping. Oregon needs a migration of motivated self sufficient minded, creative people! You will find no better value for your money than real estate in Oregon. For skiiers there is Mt Hood outside of Portland and Mt. Ashland to the south outside of Medford.

Lame duck Mayor is out of touch with the majority. Far too many bicycles crowding the roadways, causing hazards, slowing traffic and disobeying laws. A growing contingent of two-wheeled transportation in one of the wettest climates in the country. brilliant.

Proud Texan gives up! - 7/10/2011

I live north of Dallas,TX and it was 106 yesterday! I joked to my husband that I was moving to Oregon to beat the heat and then got curious and started checking it out about 10PM last night. I am becoming obsessed and have already applied for three jobs and started shopping real estate. I have lived in Texas all of my life, but I think I am done! My grass crunches when I walk on it and my cats pant!

Oregon is a great place to visit and to live - 7/8/2011

I love Oregon its a wonderful and beautiful place to visit. I live in Texas and thinking about moving to Oregon soon to get away from Texas heat and crime problems in Tx. Enough of Tx, what I like about Oregon is the weather, the weather is so comfortable from May to Oct and I have been there before a few times during those months. Its may rain a lot there from Nov to Feb but that alright because its what makes its beautiful there. The people there are very nice compare to Texas. There a lot of different kinds of tall evergreen trees everywhere in Oregon and very green. A lot of sight seeing and a lot of things to do like camping, hiking, and bike riding and so much more to do there. A lot of camp grounds everywhere. A lot of animals everywhere that you don't see very often in Tx. The ocean is very clear and blue but very cold but that what makes the weather very comfortable during the summer and early fall. Winter can be cold but not freezing cold all the time and colorado is much colder than Oregon. I heard people telling me that they are overall very happy living there. The coastal towns along the coast is really nice place to visit and great seafoods everywhere even other kinds of foods are great there too. Even the bigger cities like Portland and Eugene are very nice towns to visit and if you visit portland don't forget to visit the zoo and washington park and drive on skyline drive in portland that the most beautiful spot of town. Also the japanese garden is a very beautiful spot to visit. The waterfall east of portland was very neat to visit too and its about 15 to 20 miles east of portland and go on I-84 east and will find signs where to turn off to visit those hugh waterfalls. I will have to do more research on Oregon before I move to Eugene or Medford but i am pretty sure that where I want to move there in Oregon soon and my families loves it there too.

Homeowner Associations - 3/15/2011

I bought in a new development, so the clubhouse and common areas looked great. I even read the CC&Rs and talked to some other homeowners in the area – with good reports. After buying in the Ceres Gleann HOA in Dallas Oregon, I can state unequivocably that it is the worst real estate decision I ever made. The HOA Board of Directors doesn’t think it has to comply with the law, the CC&Rs or the HOA’s Bylaws – while at the same time assessing monthly penalties against homeowners that don’t toe the CC&R line. Just over a year ago, the HOA unlawfully charged about $600 to my HOA account which I refused to pay. Through the monthly charges for interest, re-billing and a bunch of attorney fees that the HOA will not provide detail about – the HOA has run my account up to almost $3,800. That does not include the monthly assessments - which I pay on time, even though promised services are not receiveed. And, even though what this HOA has done violates the Oregon Revised Statutes, the State of Oregon Department of Justice has advised a number of homeowners out here that the law prevents it from enforcing the statutes being violated by the Ceres Gleann HOA Board. The only way to prevent being victimized by an HOA is to never ever buy in one!

Portland Oregon - 2/13/2011

I read reviews of Oregon. People who have moved here unhappy with the weather. A true northerner will love the look and feel of our home. Misty and green, soft and often grey. Quiet times for booklovers and intellectuals. Outdoor verdant green. I am surprised by people who come and then complain, what did they expect? Know before you go. As to those saying we are suicidal walking in front of cars. How sad that you can't see we are people who stop for walkers. We value the sanctity of life, we know others do too. That is why we walk out, we know we are safe here. It is unfortunate so many people have moved here though increasing the population to an uncomfortable size. It would be best if those who don't like the weather or the people, just not come. Of if here and unhappy, please leave so we can go on enjoying our lives. We love our home and always will.
