Cost of Living - 10/19/2008

Los Gatos is a beautiful, small town with a great community. The cost of living, however, is extremely expensive. Food at the supermarket is more expensive than in neighboring cities. Gas is usually .05-.10 more per gallon than in neighboring cities. Real Estate taxes, although on the cost per 1,000 are not that high, due to the value of the homes, real estate taxes on a home valued at $1,200,000 are $17,000+/- per year. This alone makes it nearly impossible to retire here, even if a home was entirely debt free.

climate and cost of living - 8/28/2008

Los Gatos is a small unique town next to San Jose. You can't beat the climate in this area. The cost of living is high. An average home is $600,000-$700,000. We are 15 miles from the beach in Santa Cruz, Ca. It rains from December to April on and off. The rest of the year there is no rain. It is getting more crowded in the past 10 years. I love California![read more...]
