DON'T MOVE HERE!!!! - 10/21/2008 |
|
|
| There are about 15 prisons in and on the outskirts of this place, and the mind-set is "Arrest, Lock-Up, Lock-Down. Colorado has more prisons than any other state in the nation. That is their "business." They need statistics to continue this business. Lots of testosterone just waiting for an opportunity to express power. Fremont County is extremely poor and has no ordinances governing licensing of contractors, so anyone can hang a shingle. They are also notorious for taking your money and running instead of doing the job. The Building Dept. says, "Oh, he's done that to lots of people, but we don't have laws to stop it." Yet, they arrested a 60+ yr old grandmother whose home was intruded by 3 women who thought because she was crying (over a leaking roof) that she needed to be put away in a psychiatric institution and tried to take her away. She was mortified, humiliated, had to spend a night in jail, had to pay for bail, had to undergo many court appearances and faced 6 years in prison - all because, after warning these 3 women 3 times, she got out her gun to get them out of her home. The sheriff never asked her what happened. They believed the women, who had only taken 2 classes with this lady over a year earlier and didn't really even know her. I know it sounds like it could never happen, but it did. Then they refused to allow her to press charges for breaking and entering and attemptede kidnapping against these women "because it would just look like revenge." I've been here 2 years and can't wait to get as far away from this attitude and stupidity. I feel like I moved to a Twilight Zone!
