| Like that area on the Gulf coast you can cut the humidity with a knife, the refineries on the Houston ship channel are nearby and they STINK, especially with a north wind which is mainly in winter months.
The School district is one of the best in the state, I believe it used to be the richest at one time. Deer Park cannot expand much more, its room is limited. It is one of the better communities in that area, however its surrounding neighbors are not the most desired, Pasadena, and La-Porte, but it has always maintained it higher class status over the years. If you have to live in that area, Deer Park is not a bad choice.

| Deer Park High School - 12/13/2009
This school is in a good neighborhood, which is the only good thing I can say about this school. The teachers did not help my son when he needed it. I asked for additional one on one when he was sruggling and he didn't get much help or even much of a response. Very poor in helping a student who genuinely needed it. Finally, he was recommened to Wolter's.He did play football and he was an awesome player, but he never got to play much. He was promised from his coaches he would play more and he worked very hard. Thier promises were never carried through. My experience is if you didn't have money, your son didn't play much. The teachers there not very friendly, not willing to communicate with you about your child. He attended the Wolters school and teachers there did not give him much hope. They were great at first but he seemed to have gotten lost in the class room. They continued to tell him he would not graduate and didn't give him much hope. I told him not to give up. He didn't, and he graduated! Instead of congratulating him initially, they kept reminding him that they did not think he could do it. Some support. My experience in this school was not a good one and I felt prejudice. We are a hispanic family and I did not feel welcome in this community.[read more...]

| Low Stress Near the Big City - 8/21/2009
Having lived in the Houston, Texas area for forty-five years, I was delighted to discover such a small town environment in Deer Park, Texas. When I first moved here a few years ago, I immediately appreciated less traffic, a slower pace, a peaceful low-cost neighborhood -- such a change from the west and north sides of Houston. And what makes it work for me is the ready availability of what I like about Houston: great restaurants, professional sports and entertainment all within 10 to 25 miles on speedy freeways. Yes, there's a downside I've never liked our hot summers and high humidity, but I'm still choosing to live here![read more...]
