Dying City

I’m leaving. I was born here, left from 1995 to 2001 (joined the Navy) and came back. Big mistake! Rochester used to have a booming economy and the headquarters of Xerox, Kodak, B&L, French’s, Contadina Foods, Western Union, and more. Now with rising unemployment and crime, once safe neighborhoods are vanishing. I won’t drive my family through areas I used to walk through. This is not to say that Rochester is all bad: it’s not. It still has a great orchestra, museums, and historical sites. I am leaving because it has lost its solid business foundation. And for that I blame high taxes for driving out good companies.
