Mentor, Ohio SperlingViews

This city is a safe place to raise a family. The schools are "top notch", the neighborhoods are friendly and home prices are reasonable. My husband and I have lived in Mentor since 1970 and have seen many changes such as businesses and property development over the years. Most improvements were needed to provide activities for the growing community. There are still surrounding areas that have not yet been developed which gives it a somewhat rural atmosphere, but still having all the conveniences of a large city. We also have beautiful Lake Erie beach only a 10 minute drive away. The only drawback to living in this area is the weather. Although we are safe from hurricanes, the winters are quite long. However, when Spring finally arrives, the wait is well worth it.

Climate - 3/31/2007

Snows from about October or November until approximately mid-to-late March, though one year it snowed until nearly June! Used to have four distinct seasons, but now seems to just have humid summers, chilly autumns and snowy winters, as if bypassing spring season altogether or having an extremely brief spring season. The City of Mentor ranks 7th in the state of Ohio interms of the number of manufacturing firms, and 10th in terms of the number of individuals involved in manufacturing according to the recent Census of Manufacturing. The Census of Retail Trade ranks Mentor 6th in the state interms of retail sales volume.
