Redding, like the rest of the central valley, has hot summers. However, these summers do not have the humidity found in some other areas of the country. Redding has their own power generation company, which allows electricity to be cheaper than some other larger metropolitan areas of California. Let's not forget that Redding is convenient to some pretty spectacular scenery, not to mention not far from Lake Shastina and Lake Shasta and a bunch of other recreational areas. To the person who said they can't wait to get back to the "Bay Area" because Redding is too conservative and not "multicultural" enough for them-open your mind!!!Learn about what goes on inside someone's head rather than what the color of their skin is. You sound very prejudiced. Multicultural doesn't tell you what is inside a person's head nor what kind of person they are.

This same person seems to think that Redding is "too conservative" for them, yet they give to evidence of this or any examples. Pretty narrow-minded of them, isn't it. I grew up in "fly over country" where every person is important and everyone's opinions are valued. When I myself lived in the Bay Area, where the so-called "multiculturalism" is supposed to flourish, I was amazed at the narrowmindedness and prejudice they have toward flyover country. Redding is one of those "flyover" places. But Redding has a very good quality of life, and values individuality. The Bay Area deludes itself into thinking it is so "diverse"----well, maybe that is only skin deep, get it? Once you get past the skin color, then what?

For anyone with an open mind, try Redding. It is close enough drive to the Sierra mountain range, to many natural rivers, and you could do worse than live in Redding. Redding's winter temperatures rarely drop below 40 degrees, and it doesn't snow. It doesn't have the traffice jams you find in the Bay Area, and the people are friendly, and you can actually have a conversation with them because they have a bit of time for that instead of having to race off down the freeway. There aren't really any slums in Redding and there are several community colleges within range. Oh-and the internet HAS come to Redding---you can get your MBA from Duke online while you live in Redding.
