Sherman is a typical small Texas town on the southern extension of the Great Plains. Smaller Denison is about 6 miles north. Proximity to the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, a central U.S. location, and the availability of a good labor force have allowed Sherman to grow into a Mid-sized manufacturing and industrial center with favorable prospects for future economic development.

Sitting at the north end of the so-called North Texas Technology Corridor, the area includes plants for Procter & Gamble, Johnson & Johnson Medical, Kaiser Aluminum, Consolidated Container, Texas Instruments, and Raytheon. Aside from some recreational amenities on the Red River and Lake Texoma to the north, and the revitalized Denison downtown, there isn’t much to do locally. However, additional amenities and big-city services can be found in the so-called “Metroplex” to the south. The area has a reasonable cost of living and pleasant small-town prosperity.

The area sits on a broad, level plain with areas of deciduous trees. The climate is similar to that of the Dallas–Fort Worth area; a mix of continental and humid subtropical climates with considerable variations at all times of year. Summers are warm with occasional hot spells and thunderstorms. Winters are generally mild but with occasional cold snaps and snow as polar air invades from the north. Spring weather is changeable and severe weather is possible; the area is located close to “tornado alley.”
