Lompoc living - 8/7/2008

Lived here since 1963.This place had a good history,but now its overrun with mexicans! If your into drugs then this place will work for you. Do not bring kids here! There is nothing for kids to do.(they could join a gang) One policy of the Lompoc police dept is to issue tickets to people who look like they can afford them!!

Nice cool climat - 7/23/2008

We have lived here since 1980. Although the town has grown and become much more Hispanic than when we arrived, the one real positive for us is the climate. It is usually cool, sometimes too cool and foggy. The brisk wind keeps any smog out but does blow the dirt from the fields around town. Decent employment can be found in just a few areas: the Air Force Base, the Federal Prisons, and the City/County. Better paying jobs are located 45 minutes away in the Goleta-Santa Barbara area. Home prices have dropped dramatically in the past two years so this is a good opportunity to buy. All-in-all, I stil like Lompoc but if I were raising children now, I would look further north in San Luis Obispo County. Schools here are overcrowded with children of illegals which has had a negative impact on the economy.

Regular town near great things - 2/13/2008

Lompoc is a decent little town that can go much futher with it's assets. The Santa Rita hills wine region grows some of the "hot" wines from the central coast, "Seasmoke", is grown and produced here. The Pinot Noir, made so well known from the movie "Sideways", is teh regions speicalty.

Very Difficult Community To Live In - 12/21/2007

We relocated here a year ago and would not recomend this place to live. This review is provided so that if you decide on this area to live just be aware of what you may encounter. It is very expensive and a difficult place to live. Obtaining needed repair/other quality services is almost impossible. Customer service is very much lacking when trying to do business here. Senior friendly stores and services are few. Some store doors are so heavy/old you can hardly open them. The wind blows a lot and it is cold frequently because of the moist ocean fog. The weather is not near as good as the natives talk about. You must drive 25 - 50 miles to obtain decent shopping and some very needed services. Basic stoes in most communities are not in Lompoc. There is a lack of decent resturants and a variety of cusine to choose from. While others may have a different experience living here, ours has been very difficult. General things become very difficult to accomplish, are made overly complex, and frequently have to be reaccomplished in this community. Frequently your customer interfaces leave you with the feeling that they really don't care about providing efficient and quality services. Would not recommend retiring here. The Village Country Club is the exception. It is an outstanding golf course and the people are great!

Nice Weather - 7/10/2007

The weather in Lompoc is probably the best thing about our town. It usually stays around 55 and 75 all year. When most places are experiencing heat waves or blizzards we remain comfortable.

Changes in Lompoc - 5/2/2007

We lived in Lompoc from 1986 to 1993 and have returned to see friends. It's a great town although the folks from Santa Barbara snub this small town. Housing costs have gone up dramatically over the past 5 years. The town, after a city wide election, allowed Wal-Mart to open up on the north end which ended up producing a lot of sales tax $$ for Lompoc. Lompoc is off the beaten track but a good place to raise a family if you can afford the housing.

Great small city - 3/3/2006

Great town off of Hwy 101, on Hwy 1 about 8 miles from the ocean. Local jobs are on Vandenberg AFB, city/school jobs, small business service jobs and commuters to Santa Barbara (50 miles) and Santa Maria (20 miles). Housing prices appear to have peaked and may be heading down a little, but still expensive (median around 400k). Probably the cheapest place to live on the Central Coast of California. Needs more local resturants and the bar scene is either young rap or old drunk. Weather is near perfect (if you don't like really hot or cold). City is building a new pool complex and the Hospital District just got approval to build a new hospital. Great wine country (Santa Rita Hills), some scenes in Sideways took place in Lompoc. Many great resturants and a Indian Casino are located in the Santa Ynez/Solvang Valley about 20 miles away. Not a good place for singles, great for families and retired.
