| Naples, Florida - A Horrible Place to Live, and Be - 5/10/2013
I was quite surprised (and relieved) to see all the very negative reviews about Naples, Florida. I lived there for more than a decade and I would not recommend living there or visiting there. It is a horrible place to be on many levels. People who have commented here on this site already have it right when they say it is for conservative, wealthy, old people, and it is a place with no jobs, no opportunities and nothing to do. It is also, as some have noted already, a place where there is no civil rights. If this is the sort you enjoy - a corrupt law enforcement, corrupt judiciary, corrupt local newspaper, and no opportunity, then, by all means, move to Naples, Florida and wave your American flag. For those of us who prefer job opportunities, civil rights, and free speech in these United States, the best place to live (and visit) is SOMEWHERE ELSE! Here's a little tip for you: it doesn't take any drugs or alcohol to get yourself arrested in Naples, FL for a DUI; it can happen for any reason at all, like if the police feel like they have nothing better to do at the moment. Your photo can then be published online at the local newspaper, and you and your career and life are ruined for life. So, good luck with the decision to visit or live in Naples, Florida! Not for those who are under 80 years old, not conservative, and like free speech and civil rights. A terrible, horrible, dreadful, scarey place, as many many people on this site have already noted. BTW, I am a school teacher, not a hippie or drug user and I don't drink. It is a terrible place to visit or live. Best decision I ever made: to move out!

| Police Officer are not fair to the innocent - 2/26/2013
My high end home in a very exclusive neighborhood home was broken into while I was going thru a divorce. Two armed men broke into my home and thank goodness that I had 2 dogs with me. One was trained as a guard dog and one was just a pet. The police did not take my situation serious at all. Their police dogs chased the scent to the end of my street stating that the men most likely had a car waiting for them. I could have been murdered that night if it was not for my dog. The police did not take any of my situation serious at all and that is due to they were friends with my then stepson. Heaven help anyone who needs a first responder police officer and hope you receive fair treatment. I am moving from Naples and I have been here for 30 years due to I do not feel at all safe in my own home due to the certain actions of my ex and the police that know him. My ex is massive pain medication drug abuser and they look away from that fact and never do anything about that situation. It is a pure shame for the rich men in this town can basically get away with murder.

| Moving to Naples - 1/15/2012
Hello
My name is DeeDee and I am looking to move to Naples from New Mexico. I choose Naples because it is seems quite and has beautiful beaches. I was reading some of what others have said and It is not looking good from what others think. How horrible is the job market there? I am a Dental Assistant. I don't care about Night life as I would rather take my dog to the beach and bring a container of ice tea and watch the sun set than go partying. I have seen online some nice apts that seem affordable. So why do so many people seem to not like Naples? What about some of the good about Naples. I will be down there in March to apply for jobs and secure a place to live. Any possitive experiances?

| Do not move here if you are a young professional!! - 12/15/2011
Do not move here if you are a young professional!! There are not companies in this town that could hire you, I spent three months trying to find a job in the hotel industry, and no luck, nothing found, been to several interviews but nothing. You will end in a 7 Eleven if you are lucky. Must of jobs in this town are seasonal, snowbirds season from December to April, and are restaurant jobs which pay very low. Must of jobs in Naples do not required qualified people and the range of pay is from $8.00 to $10.00. It was really frustrating for me, at least I made the decision to move out of that miserable town where people just go to spent the senior years or to die.

| What makes Naples such boring town. - 11/25/2010
Eight month ago, I moved out here from Hollywood, Florida, to spend more time with my precious daughter. I've been divorce for 13 years, but I have always been there for her. She is about to graduate from High School and we parents know, how difficult it is to deal with them at that age. To compound the problem, there is absolutely nothing to do in this city but to go to the movies. In the past three weeks, I have seen the movie Wall Street, at least 10 times. Golf? I do not play any golf.Furthermore, it is almost impossible to make any friends. Nobody talks to anybody anymore. Back in the good old days, neighbors knew each other.Kids could play outside safely. If there was a BBQ on a Sunday afternoon, everybody was invited. Sadly, that is not the case anymore. I can't wait for my precious daughter to graduate. I will be out of here the following day.

| Real Estate an Investment in Naples - 8/19/2010
Naples has been my home for 10 years now a mid point to being a native. Very few people who live here are natives. Most of us seem to have gotten to Naples by way of Vacation, looking for good weather in the winter months, searching for an investment property or lucky enough to be relocated early in our professional careers. Naples has proven to be everything that we were looking for as we began to think about retiring.
The diversity in Naples begins with the fact that people come here from all over the world. Again what may begin as a travel or vacation area very soon results in folks; from Canada, Germany, Sweden, UK you name the country, wanting to own their part of this Gulf Coast Paradise.
You will find everything here in one form or another, fine arts, Philharmonic, boating, fishing, white sand beaches, fine restaurants. Luxury seems to be a key word describing Naples Florida. It's Luxury Boats, homes, condos.
One of my favorate things to do is have lunch with a friend at one of the outside cafe type restaurants on 5th Ave S in Old Naples and "People Watch". You can pick the visitors out quite easily and know by watching them that they are glad to be in Naples.
Old Naples is the place to be when in Naples; special events go on year long, with additional emphisis on what is typically called season when our population can as much as double when our friends from all over the world come to enjoy our beautiful winters where temperatures generally range in the low 70's.

| WOW - 8/14/2010
Naples has some of the most beautiful homes I have ever seen, and some of the most expensive places to live. Which is great if you are rich. Its a real shame that the "average" income person cant afford to live here. I am a single working "gal" and wanted to start a new live here in Naples, but that is not possible with the salary I make(no job market either)unless I want to live among the drug dealers and "mean" people of Naples (Crimes areas). Where do the nice, clean, honest, kind hearted people in Naples go to live? They dont live here, they leave!!!! they cant afford it. Instead seems Naples is left to the "people with money" that are hateful, rude, could care less about others, or the people that want to sell you drugs, do propery damage or casue problems for others.

| It takes a certain mindset to live here... - 6/3/2010
After working in the Naples area for over 2 years and living here permanently for close to a year, I've given moving some serious thought. As a transplant and a 21-year old student at the local college I can tell you there is not a whole lot to do here and it is difficult to advance or find new opportunities. Like many will say it is quite diverse, but people generally keep to themselves and their own background or tax bracket making the diversity nothing to write home about. Being yourself is not really encouraged, so if you decide to come here you'll want to find a niche and you better hope your pockets are lined with money or you will be quite bored. It's kind of a shame, because the town itself is really nice, well-kept, with great beaches and pleasant winters. It's one of those places you will either love or hate, so consider taking an extended vacation to see everything and do some research. If you can't afford said vacation, you certainly won't be able to afford an enjoyable living here.

| Very pretty place to live - 9/9/2009
Naples gets a lot of negative reviews by people who live in Southwest FL or have visited the area. In my opinion, sometimes it's because they can't afford to live there or find a job. I'm not being snobby, because I can't afford to live here either! lol However, I worked in Naples and rented a home on the Naples/Bonita line for many years, and it's very safe & clean. I would not recommend moving to Naples unless you already have a secure job and enough money to support yourself, since the opportunities are very limited. However, no matter what people write about the uppity & arrogant residents (which is completely true) you can always find bad & nice people wherever you go and Naples is no exception. There are plenty of hard-working middle class people living in Naples, especially in Golden Gate Estates & Golden Gate City. Just because you don't see them dining at the overpriced restaurants and designer shops or driving around in new luxury vehicles, this well-deserved stereotype doesn't represent the entire community.

| Raising a family in Naples Florida - 6/7/2009
Excellent schools here, Sub-Tropical weather is a plus. Plenty of clean beaches, palm trees with coconuts hanging and clean parks for the kids. There is also a water park here with fair prices to enter. Everything about Naples is clean and modernized. Streets are clean, roads are clean, parks are clean. Areas to stay away. There are a couple of problem areas with some crime, like everywhere else . Stay away from the Town of Immokalee and East Naples/Golden Gate City. I came down here from the Bronx NY. My area is quite, no bothers from the neighbors and very low crime. Plenty activities for kids provided by Parks and Recreation Department in Collier County. Having a car is mandatory in Florida. You can also drive to the East Coast of Florida using Alligator Alley. Go on a full tank, there are no gas stations on Alligator Alley. Hope this helps.

| Naples is my dream - 5/10/2009
I anm currently living in Miami. I was surprised to learn that naples has the same crime rate with Miami Shores in Miami. I doubt that. While living in Miami for 9 months< I was robbed, assaulted, house burglarized, hit and run accident. It is scary to live in Miami. Any time I drive to Naples, I see beautiful neighborhoods, nature, outlet stores, and have not noticed any signs of crime. I need to get out of Miami. I have a house there that I would gladly exchange for a condo in Naples. Now I live like a hermit, because even going to the opera brings extreme distress while parking at the side of the road when a homeless approaches you and tries to park your car in public space for a fee. It is disgusting in Miami. I wish I could get out before perishiong here. Somebody help! 786-306-6126 nc97@juno.com I am a school teacher by the way, Miami has no job for me. Living in Miami is like living in third world country: it is dirty, poor, disgusting.

| Naples Florida - 11/29/2008
Naples, Florida has a year round population of 110,000 for all of Collier County. The sales of homes has increased over the previous months for the past 5 months. This is extraordinary because of the fact that most of our sales for residential is between January and July. There are many great buys in Naples with a median price of around $261,000. Prices have fallen, short sales and foreclosures are numerous but the Europeans and South Americans love to buy and own in SW Florida.
We have a paradise with our water sports, shopping, dining and cultural events. Our median age is now 42 years and we have families that make our schools and area one of the best in Florida.
