Ohio is diverse in topography and culture - 2/16/2011

Northern Ohio atmosphere from Cleveland to Toledo resonates an air of fun with places like Cedar Point in Sandusky, to interesting museums like the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. Additionally the Cleveland Orchestra, and the world famous Cleveland Clinic offers other excellent health choices. Moving south about 100 miles from Cleveland the topography changes to more rolling hills. The Amish craftsmanship can be appreciated at many local venues - especially near Sugarcreek and Millersburg. Continuing in a southerly direction, Columbus is a fast moving city - the highways have fairly easy access and many interesting shopping adventures await, as well as art and entertainment. Ohio has a unique blend of rural and urban areas. Cleveland to Cincinnati is about a 4 hour drive - depending on conditions. Although a rather small state compared to others, it boasts presidents and astronauts. The Buckeye state has 4 seasons that can be enjoyed by all. Although the economy has been challenged, there is recent hope that positive forces are taking shape to help improve Ohio's economy. Come visit Ohio - you will have fun!

Don't Move to Tampa Bay Florida (especially Clearw - 5/25/2010

I lived in Florida for nearly ten years before moving north, and escaping the crime, traffic and very rude people. Living in Florida was a nightmare in general. There were drug dealers and prostitutes living in even the nice areas, and the traffic was soooo horrible that it was dangerous to drive anywhere because people drive very aggressively on all streets! I bought a new car and a month later, some kid driving and using a cellphone plowed into it as I was getting on Route 19 (the most dangerous road in the area)! Totalled my car! Jobs pay next to nothing, neighbors never mind their own business for the most part, and the landlords/movers are dishonest and shifty, in my opinion. Apartments mainly had those little 3/4 sized ovens, which were usually old and worn out. I paid over $700 per month for a so-called nice apartment in a large complex on a lake but it was full of black mold, shabby service/maintenance and a scary landlord who entered peoples' apartments any time he felt like it. I also had to get a restraining order against some hateful old woman who hated everyone and was always harrassing and bothering me, when I kept to myself and worked all the time (to pay the expensive cost of living down there). It was sincerely unreal. If you live in Florida, you have to get licenses for your pets or you can be arrested (even cats!), battle with crowds everywhere you go and doctors' offices are usally very crowded/overbooked with hurried service when you finally do see the doctor. It was a terrible place to live, stay up north where you have room to move, not need to worry about people stealing your things (especially when you move) and where driving isn't like you're in a car race everywhere you go. Trust me.

Out of the cold and gray skies - 3/8/2010

Marysville was a wonderful place to grow up becuase it was a very small town back then (pop. about 6000 in the early 60's). But I am ready to move to the high desert of California. I am tired of the long winters and gray skies year around.

Okay, but sufering from hardships. - 11/21/2009

The state is actually fairly divers landscape. Northwest is flat farmland with a few rivers. Northeast has a lot of the cities there; Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Youngstown...ect. There is also some farmland, but not as much as Northwest. Southwest is best known for Dayton and Cincinnati...not a lot other than that. Southeast has the more scenic hoking hills area, and plenty of trees. Southern Ohio in general is a bit poorer than the northern half of Ohio. The state is having hardship like everywhere else due to the tanking economy. Gasoline is fairly cheap in the state. Houses are still being built so the housing market is only fair. It's a buyers market for the most part. Crime is on the raise in most city areas. The state has 5 of the major cities has known to be violent; Cleveland, Toledo, Cincinnati, Dayton, and Youngstown. There are, however, some good suburbs to these cities. Overall from 1-10 I give the state a 6.

I love My City "CLEVELAND, OHIO" - 10/7/2009

Im so tired of people talking negatively about where they live. Haven't you guys ever heard those stories about terminally ill/very sick people getting significantly better just because of their attitude! If you want your life to be better.....try smiling or being compassionate towards others and being kind to people! Or loving people without a price attached! Overcome the evil things that people do with goodness and love. It's hard and it hurts, especially when those same people hurt you, but you'll have a much better quality of life if you do. Those who can't forgive others have no right pleading for forgiveness when their turn comes around!- I love Cleveland, Ohio. It might be cold most of the time but that just means more skiing, snowboarding and sledding w/ the kids. I've traveled the world and believe me....extreme heat and extreme cold are no different. You cant stay in your AC/HEAT forever. Eventually you have to go outside, and when you do you should head down to the "Rock Hall of Fame or the "Cleveland Museum of Natural History" or maybe catch a show @ the "Playhouse Square". or head down to Lake Erie and watch the sun set over the water? Cleveland is a wonderful place! It's all what you choose to make it!

Needs better public Transit!! - 8/8/2009

All over Ohio, there are so many opportunities for utilizing public transportation. The State and local governments need to make this a priority, but they don't. I just wish they worked a little harder to make it easier for people to move around...

The Various Energies within the state of Ohio - 5/30/2009

There are 3 major cites in the state of Ohio. We call them the (3 C's). Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati. They seem to make a perfect 3 point geographical slant through our state with Cleveland at the top right on Lake Erie, Columbus directly in the center, and Cincinnati at bottom left on the Ohio River. Though they are all Ohio cities the energy is different. Cincinnati is so close to Kentucky that a lot of conservative southern energy resides there. Columbus, the capitol, maintains its cool by having better economic opportunities than any other city in the state.Cleveland, perhaps the most open minded of the 3, is so far north that it maintains is own persona with out too much conservative or liberal influences. Not to exclude Dayton, Youngstown, or Toledo whose energies are similar to the cities in these regions. At the end of the day, they all make Ohio what is... The Heart of it all. Remember, you can't win the oval office without winning the OH! Go Bucks!

Skip Columbus, Ohio! Go somewhere else! - 12/28/2008

We haven't lived here long. We're transplants from Huntington, WV. Mind you, that wasn't a great area either. We did it more out of necessity than anything else. Rapidly rising crime, and very poor economy. We moved to Columbus, Ohio trying to better ourselves and stay somewhat close to family in WV. Before anyone says anything, I did my research. A lot of these sites don't tell you everything, and at times the data isn't completely accurate. On paper Columbus looked great, but it's not. We made a horrible mistake. First of all the economy is now worse off here as well. I give them that though. Just about everywhere is bad right now, so can't hold that against them. We knew traffic would be bad, but bad doesn't describe it. Columbus is an aging city that has not kept up with growth. The people generally aren't friendly. Something that shocked me considering where in the "wholesome" midwest. Your neighbors could care less about you. Crime is getting so out of hand. My husband and I live in a area that is considered a "better" area, but it's slowly turning into the "hood" for a lack of a better word. People will shot you for anything right now, and it's disturbing. Taxes are excessive. You pay your federal income tax, state income tax, municipal income tax, sales tax, property taxes, and school taxes. I'm sure there are many I'm missing. In most other states, the school taxes are included in with your property taxes. Not here. They get you twice for that if not more. A typical home property taxes run you around $1,500 to $2,000 per year. In some areas, that isn't bad. I say it is if it's for a $100,000 home! You think you can afford more home here, but you obviously can't with that eating your house payment every month. With all the taxes, Ohio has no money. I'm sure when all is said and done, taxes will be raised shortly to remedy that on the backs of the poor taxpayer. Jobs are being lost at a alarming rate, their losing their homes, and more taxes is the last thing they need. Back to the commute. It's excessive. You can live right on the edge of town, but you're still going to be driving anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour one way to work. If there is bad weather, you can double that. No one can drive in it. Rain or snow. That's shocking as well. I imagined this city could handle it considering. Columbus now doesn't touch city or residential streets unless there is quite a bit of snow pack on it. This just doesn'

Ohio - 3/3/2008

Ohio is, ok I have been here all of my life. I have traveled out of Ohio to diffrent states but never to stay. I would say Ohio is family friendly and some what people friendly, the quality of life over all I would say i'm happy. Now keep in mind just like with most things you take the good with the bad. Now Ohio is a good place to be but, I can't really rate it against anything else, this is the only state I have ever lived in.

Columbus, Ohio - 1/5/2008

Columbus is a great place to raise a family, dine out, see a play or dance theater performance. Overall the cost of living is pretty good. The only thing I do not like is the winters. The winters are not that bad compared to other wintry towns, I am just more of a sand and surf person.
