| Best place for retirees - 7/11/2012
St. Croix, US Virgin Islands is so far the best place for retirees. The people are warm and still practice old good family values and very respectful. Climate is hot April to July, afterwhich we experience rain falls that last for only 20 minutes. Green mountains and clear blue seas. The air is clean. Driving around will only take you 20 mins and you are home. Peaceful, quiet, clean air, slow paced lifestyle.

| What recession? - 4/5/2012
Utah has been growing through the recession, especially in the tech industry. Adobe is building a large new facility right in my back yard. Twitter is building a data center here. And as scary as it sounds, the NSA is building a huge telecommunications "listening post." that will employ 15,000 people.
Why all the growth when so many other places have been faced with a huge recession? Utah is business friendly. It has a high percentage of college graduates, and the highest per capita multi-lingual population in the country.

| Utah - This is the Place! - 3/13/2012
I may be biased, because I was born and lived most of my life here (except for a few years in Texas and Alaska), but Utah is a great place to live. Very family friendly and fairly affordable. If you like the outdoors, it is a wonderful place to be. Hiking and skiing in the mountains and Boating on several lakes. Hunting is a very big thing here also.
I am glad to live here.

| I love living in Salt Lake City Utah - 1/16/2012
I love living in Salt Lake City, Ut. I have the best of everything around me. I live within a 30 minute drive of the airport on a bad traffic day. If i choose to live in the mountains it is still a 30 minute drive. I have the mountains 30 minutes away to go hiking and skiing. In the summer I have 4 lakes within 1 hour of my home. It is safe and just a great place to live.

| Great place for recreation, strange culture. - 11/8/2011
Salt Lake City and Utah in general offers many recreational opportunities. The most famous is the snow skiing in the winter with many resorts to choose from and we are told "the greatest snow on earth". The geography is impressive from alpine forests in breathtaking mountains to awe inspiring desert scenery with arches and dramatic formations.
The culture and politics are primarily LDS and conservative. The Mormon church is pervasive and ubiquitous. There are very few elected officials that are not LDS. Salt Lake City tends to be more progressive than the rest of the state, but the state legislature has passed some weird liquor laws and the state controls the distribution and sale of liquor and wine. You can buy 3.2% beer in the grocery store but that's it. They recently passed laws saying mixed drinks in a restaurant must be prepared out of sight of the customers. Some national chain restaurants are now saying they will not open new outlets in Utah because this requirement adds too much to the cost of construction.

| AVOID UTAH IF YOU ENJOY ACCEPTANCE, CULTURE OR DIV - 7/29/2010
I'm armed and ready for all you Utah-loving scrapbooking mormons to fire back at me. I have over 20 years experience living in the hellhole that is Utah, so I am not writing this from a "grain of salt" experience. No, not at all. I am actually speaking on behalf of a LOT of friends and family here.
If you want a raw, real peek into "Salt Lake City" (And sorrounding areas) here you go:
Please, please please do yourselves a favor and AVOID UTAH.
After spending 8 wonderful years on the east coast,
I left behind a lot of good friends and clean air to move back here to help my mom out. (I had lived here before for a little bit before moving out there) I was used to open, friendly and talkative people before I moved here. As soon as I got here, I was shocked by how unemotional and standoffish people were. At restaurants, (All overpriced, CROWDED beyond belief with 1 hour and half waits on Friday and Saturday) the grocery store, everyone looked down or away and avoided conversation. Women all eyeballed me with dirty looks to make sure they were the more attractive one. Most of them dress and act like real life Barbie dolls who utter "like" before and every sentence. Utah was recently voted the vainest state where women spend the most on cosmetics, salons and plastic surgery. Most 15 year olds are already getting $120 hair foils to make sure their hair is model perfect. That's not even mentioning their $100 jeans and a brand new car before they can even drive. There is no such thing as struggle. Struggle is shameful here. We must look perfect and polished at all times to keep up with the neighbors.
Again, I'm talking about years of seeing this. It just got worse and worse. Almost every friend I made or person I have talked to has been cheated on or had a horrible story iof infidelity to share. I'm talking years of stories (That's a lot of random people, folks...) I have NOT YET HEARD OF ONE healthy relationship, short of a few older people I have talked to. Sleeping around is second nature to people. I am talking about all age groups here. Affairs are so rampant I have probably heard of at least a hundred. STD rates are through the roof and one of the highest in the nation (If not higher than California) Teen pregnancies are more then I had ever heard of before moving here. It's "normal" for 14 year olds to be walking around pregnant here, their mormon families supporting them without one harsh word. I read about children being sexually abused almo

| Horrible! - 7/17/2010
Utah as a whole when it comes to the people who were born and raised thier are terrible. My husband and I lived there 4 years and every moment of it was aweful. When we went to a restaurant and ordered a drink ( such as a martini ) all eyes were on us giving us looks like we just slapped Brigham Young in the face. The schools are horribly over-run, like every kid there has atleast 4 or 5 brothers and sisters. If you ARE`NT of thier religious faith you get completely shunned and you feel like an outcast. Unless your an excersize gooru or have 6+ children there is absolutely nothing fun to do. I would never suggest anyone live there and if you still want to visit, good luck. You`ll need it.

| the snow and the cold weather... - 5/30/2010
I am so tired of living in a freezing , snowing place 9 months out of the year. we are now almost in june and we had a snowstorm last week. I am tired of it. I want to be able to take my daughter and my puppy out for walks and to parks, i wanna be able to take a jog in the morning or go for a bike ride but i cannot do that here in Utah. I have this feeling that i dont belong here and although i have no clue where i belong , i know it's not here and that there is somewhere for me to be happy out there.

| Education funding - 4/5/2010
Utah does not adequately pay for education. This state has the highest number of children per household, yet is last in per pupil funding. As a result, good teachers leave and seek gainful employment in other states or professions. I struggle to make ends meet as a Utah teacher, and I really wish that if Utahns are going to have so many children, they would pony up the money to pay for their education.

| Difficult - 12/28/2009
The Salt Lake Valley is a great place to raise kids however, if you are not LDS than it can be a challenge. Often my kids are excluded or not allowed to do things. Places are closed Sundays or people won't let their children play with ours on Sunday. It can be a challenge as a stay at home mom because there are not a lot of non-LDS moms at home or at least they are hard to find.

| Getting crowded here, pollution in the winter is a - 10/6/2009
The avg age is way young, the ratio of married people is way high as is the number of women having babies, and the culture is skewed too much towards Mormons. Utah has one of the highest tax rates, and schools that are overcrowded and under funded.
However, the four seasons are great, recreation diverse, and fairly strong economy.

| LDS - Mormons - 7/21/2009
Utah is very pretty and if you can handle the over barren LDS who seem to try and pressure the kids in school and will deny jobs to people not of the LDS good old boys club.

| Central Utah - 5/18/2009
The towns are very small, but a great places to raise you're children. Very strong LDS/Mormon communities. Travel to the city for major items is 1-1.5 hours. Lots of room for dirt biking and ATV. Great for mountain climbing. Very quitet communities. relaxing.

| Utah is a Great Place to Live - 4/27/2009
I have lived in Idaho, Ohio, and many parts of Utah, and prefer Utah, hands-down. It is beautiful here, with gorgeous mountains, lakes, and clean rivers surrounding you everywhere. There is abundant hiking, camping, skiing, fishing, boating, and hunting, as well as shopping, dining, theme parks, and other wholesome entertainment. Most people's lives here revolve around family, education, and religion, as there are several major universities, and Utah is the well-known capital of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or the Mormon church. There is relatively little crime- you can leave your doors unlocked and be pretty safe, for the most part. The climate has four distinct seasons. A very snowy winter, great for skiing, a hot, dry summer, usually uncomfortable without AC, and mild, pleasant spring and fall. Traffic can be a pain, as most of Utah's roads were not designed to handle the number of people that have settled here. However, it doesn't compare to traffic in really large cities, and most slow-downs are no longer than 15-30 minutes, at most. Whenever I have to move to another state, I always wish I could transplant the beautiful, family-friendly environment of Utah with me. If you are into an adult night-life/ party scene, downtown Salt Lake City is probably one of the few places you will find much to do.
