Friendly, safe, convenient but... - 6/25/2018
We recently sold our family home of 20+ years in Potomac, MD and moved just down the road to Gaithersburg. We have nothing but good things to say about the people (friendlier than Potomac), the convenience (everything one needs is nearby, from grocers to doctors, dentists, stylists, and shops), and the diversity of neighborhoods and people.

As with most of Maryland near the DC area the cost of living is above the national average, with taxes being a major drawback. We love the area but be prepared to pay a premium for having it all at your fingertips. Read More

Planning "Goodbye" to Maryland -- all of it! - 9/1/2013
The state has the potential to be a great place to live ... but that 'Reality’ is just slipping away. The current leadership has done a really bang-up job creating so many ‘creative’ taxing opportunities that residents should really be mindful of those they elect. Soon we can expect a new “Rain Tax”. Interestingly, (or maybe not) only Maryland has gone down the path of ‘another tax’ (or whatever the legislature chooses to call this). I’m more than just a tad concerned that continuing to live and to retire here will not be a fiscally responsible decision, especially based on my last 15+ years in the Montgomery County and over 20+ years in the state … mostly ruled by one party and the legislators can never seem to have enough of one’s hard-earned income confiscated for all their pet projects. So I’ve begun my research to determine Read More

Great place to live. Quieter, slower pace than locations closer to DC. But close enough to th surrounding areas (Virginia, DC, Maryland) that one can enjoy all there is to offer.
