Very nice town but not for everyone! - 8/29/2021
Here's my take on Mesquite. I have a home in Orange County, CA and since 2005, a 2nd (vacation) home in St. George. We have spent much time in Mesquite. My daughter bought a home there last year. In the Fall/Winter, it is lovely weather wise. Summers are brutally hot. The people who like (or love) Mesquite tend to be older retired people who like the friendliness of the town and that you can get around the whole place in about 15-20 minutes. What even those folks (at least most) do not like about it is lack of great healthcare options. You really do often need to go to St. George or Vegas. And the town really does need more shops, restaurants and services to accommodate growth. I really don't see the place being ideal for younger people (especially singles) as there is not all that much to do. If you are raising children, the schools get mixed reviews. Home pricing/housing is going up - up - up but is still less than St. George, for the most part. My daughter had wanted to buy in St. Read More

Never Though Las Vegas would look good to me again - 12/29/2020
The rudest, most vile people I have ever met. We were considering retiring here but no way!! Bad drivers, no affordable housing, poor medical care (we would have to continue to travel to Las Vegas for it so why bother?), mean older men and women who act as though they are entitled and asking them to wear a face mask is beyond them even though it would save their lives. Want to do something besides gamble and golf? Sorry, this is not the place. I have hated every minute here and will be leaving Read More

Where the old go to mark time and be patronized - 12/24/2019
My husband and I visited Mesquite around Christmas as it had been suggested to us as a place to retire, but the impression we had was that retirees are a very large part of the population and we prefer a mix of age groups and a downtown with more personality.

If a beautiful golf course and clubhouse, lovely gated subdivisions of upscale houses, convenient hospital and senior center, and little else is what you're looking for this is the place. But to me it feels sterile and the attitude of many of the service people condescending.

Example: My husband and I had lunch in the Eureka Casino, which was nominally decorated for the holidays but playing obnoxious, ratcheting, hip-hop type music. The waitress repeatedly addressed me as "Hon" and at one point put her hand on the small of my back as though I were an inmate at a nursing home and she was preparing to wipe my chin. It totally creeped me out. (Please note that although I have gray hair I was taller, Read More

Looking to move to Mesquite, NV? Keep on Driving! - 7/8/2019
If you are considering Mesquite, NV as a nice place to live, and you like doing things other than gambling, golf or ATV’g - keep on driving!
The climate is the worst - I've lived here 4 years; last year the thermometer reached nearly 116 degrees – in June! You can't go outside in summer, not even at midnight. When the wind blows, it feels like standing in front of a massive blow dryer on high; and don't get me started on air quality - the dirt and sand, OMG! This is the DESERT, with little vegetation to keep the soil stable, so it's always in the wind. My eyes hurt all the time due to the dryness and the dirt. My head always feels swollen - there is strange pollen in the air as well. I've never in my life had allergies, but now, in Mesquite, I have them. The doctors here say that most people develop allergies within two years of moving here (it was about that for me) because of the unusual desert pollens that are in the air. Miserable! It’s the dustiest place I’ve Read More

Best climate to live in - 2/12/2015
I live in Mesquite, Nevada. I hear all these glorious reviews and need to set the record straight. Yes, Mesquite is clean n beautiful to Look at. the negatives need to be addressed. It is too hot for human beings at least 1/3 of the year. There is not enough to do and places to go. The widowers outnumber the widows or available men. The retirees and elderly outnumber the younger people. Too many smokers n damn cigar smokers that have NO consideration for others. People are basically not very friendly. Cost of living is 102.5% above national average. Is a view worth it? I am searching for a new place to Read More

Mesquite is a superior place to live - 1/9/2014
I love Mesquite. It's sunny most of the time. It stays warmer than St. George and has a lower cost of living than most of the alternative retirement communities around. The people are friendly. Many of them have welcome conservative attitudes. Love that. There are lots of things to do. You can golf at half a dozen local, world class courses, Ski at Brian Head, visit nearby Las Vegas, or spend a day shopping and eating at St. George. The town has casinos if you like to gamble. They bring in lots of entertainment. Southern California is a short drive away. When I'm there I live at the Desert Shade Apartments. They are newly renovated, large, clean, and well kept up. The management there is responsive and keeps the place fixed up. I love the people there. It's a fabulous place to retire to. I save a lot of money living here while I feel I actually have a better life than if I lived in Vegas. I love the weather!Read More

Mesquite is growing again! - 2/6/2012
We live in Del Webb Sun City Mesquite, NV. My husband and I are retired and are having the time of our lives. We wake up to beautiful panoramic mountains that turn purple at sunset! Del Webb has built over 800 homes in our community! There is no end to ongoing activities. Getaways include: Vegas on weekends and St George, Utah, during the week. We are always happy to get back to Mesquite and the small-town atmosphere, though. Everything is within walking distance: Banks, hospital, general care, Walmart, Smiths, Bealls, pizza, chocolate store, sushi, Ace, and of course the casinos. Activities happen here every week: Branson Out West, Balloon Fest, Car Shows, ReMax Long Drive Golf, Chili Cookoffs, parades, Wine and Beer Fests, Weekly Entertainment at the casinos, etc. Hopefully, the new indoor sports arena will be built soon! Come live in Mesquite! Read More

Boom town gone bust - 10/6/2011
Now that this Nevada desert boom town has long gone bust, those who can afford to leave by realizing an incredibly depleted equity in property values are packing up and moving elsewhere. In a city that has always been geared towards the geriatric community, the young and restless, and familes alike are discriminated against. Those who are a member of a minority group, whether it be of race or political views of anything other than extreme right-wing, will be targeted by the local justice. With all but two casinos shut down, and with hundreds of vacant and unfinished homes remaining, there is little to offer in this miserable desert valley. Read More

Mesquite quality of life.... - 3/8/2010
Lived here for a total of 3 yrs. Declining economy, astoundingly high gasoline prices, substandard medical care and people in the area seem to be there as they can't afford Sun City or Scottsdale etc. Those are the retirees. Mayor was being investigated by FBI and the list goes on. It's a nice spot. Has it's own water which has not been sold or claimed by LA or Vegas. If you want to live in a condo or the like - this is the time to buy while prices are dropping like stones.
Never seems to have been a good reason for gasoline prices to be so high. Watch which cell phone coverage you get- some works only in part of the city. Nice nice rec Read More

Mesquite is the fastest-growing city in Nevada, yet it remains a small town community. Our population is 18,000 and growing quickly, expected to reach close to 27,000 by the year 2012.
