Updated review - 4/5/2018
I wrote a positive review of Lenoir 4 years ago and my opinion of the town has nothing but improved since living here over time. They've added a new movie theater, new gyms, many new restaurants, and many more jobs in the are since we moved here in 2013. It's been amazing to watch HOPE come to this community as once older buildings come back to life and new buildings with new people come into the area. There are so many talented people in this area with gifts in business, the food industry, non-profit work, medical and technology to name a few. I loved this community when I was on my own, when I was here as a young married couple, and I love it now still as a young family with four kids. There is hope here and I hope more and more people move to this area and continue to improve what is already pretty great. Read More

LOVE IT HERE! - 4/23/2014
I know the unemployment rate in Lenoir is not superb, but the lifestyle here is wonderful! I've lived outside Chicago, rural Oklahoma and New Hampshire, outside Ft. Things run at a slower pace which takes some getting used to if you're used to a face-paced city atmosphere, but it's welcoming, the people are so friendly, and the downtown is wonderful. We have car shows and family movies shown downtown during the summer, the leaves are beautiful in the fall, and the outdoor activities available year-round are excellent. You're within a reasonable driving distance to Hickory (25 mins S), Boone (1 hr N), Charlotte (1 1/2 hrs SE), Winston-Salem (1 hr 15 mins E), Morganton (20 mins), and Asheville (1 hr 15 mins W). We have hiking trails, the greenway (paved walking/biking trails), waterways (Catawba River, Lake Rhodiss, Lake Hickory, Wilson's Creek), camping and so much more here. Plus we have great little Read More

Economy in the Catawba River Valley - 11/13/2007
As a lifelong resident, one of the primary reasons I remained here was the abundance of employment. But in the late 90's we began a slow downturn, until many of the local employers were importing nearly all of their products. Sure it's a great place to live, but I am wanting to leave for greener pastures, more work and a few other personal favorite pastimes that Lenoir has never been known for - big mountains, really big mountains. Good luck if you come Read More
