quality of life - 1/14/2011
The air quality is now one of the worst in the nation. My family moved to
the Phoenix area in 1961. The quality of the air was good then for my brothers
respiratory problems. The population has grown from 100,000 in 1961 to almost
5.7 million. The hot season is now from May to November instead of June to
August. The cost of living is still acceptable, but the streets and freeways
are very crowded during peaks. The demographics has also changed, as maricopa
county, where Phoenix is located is now only 25% Caucasian. The hispanic
population is now 65%. This impacts land value and crime.[read more...] |

Great most of the year - 10/25/2009
Peoria, AZ (suburb of Phx) a great place to live 8 months out of the year due to it's mild, dry climate. I always feel like I am on vacation! It is sunny and bright with low humidity and beautiful surroundings. There are many outdoor activities you can do including biking, hiking, tennis, and of course golfing. The best thing about the location is that if I want to get out of the heat in the summer, I can drive a couple hours north to Sedona or Flagstaff or 5 hours west to any location in Southern California. Airfare is also inexpensive (usually around $100 roundtrip) to Southern California and Las Vegas if you want to get away for a weekend.
Although I think the desert is beautiful, I do miss the greenery you get in a location that has more annual rainfall. I just don't miss the rain. When it does rain in Phoenix, it is a real treat and welcomed. Beautiful lightning storms that fill up the sky![read more...] |

Go away !! - 9/23/2009
I am moving out, this is an ultra religous conservative place. Too many old people living yet in the 30's. I prefer to comute an hour, before driving an hour in the city fighting old fanatic religius people. Recently the city try to prosicute a neightbor because they made pictures of their kids in the bath and were reported by some of the old ultras working at walmart printing service. The city lost, of course no state court would loss a minute on that. In fact, the city, and the walmart got sued back for difamation. If you are an inconditional Bush-Religous-Redneck inconditional, this place is for ya![read more...] |

STAY AWAY! - 7/28/2007
I moved here almost 2 years ago from the midwest, it appeared to be paradise. NOT AT ALL! Horrible drivers, HORRIBLE PEOPLE, AND CRIME IS UNREAL!!! Theres 2 rapists still on the loose here now! Like the police have something better to do. I got robbed a month ago while I was sleeping! They took the wheels off my car, all of my husbands tools, our minibikes, speakers,ETC!! And all the cops said to me was "its common". And I havent heard from them since!! I even gave them a plate number of a car that was seen at my house DURING the robbery! THEY DID NOTHING, said they couldnt because they didnt catch them in the act. WHAT?! Your better off being a scumbag here, than a hard working citizen. We are a young couple that moved here thinking we could start our newly wedded life here...now we have to move back home and life with HIS PARENTS to get back on our feet....AZ INS DOESNT COVER THE GARAGE...CHECK YOUR POLICY! Have you ever heard of that?! So we get no recovery.[read more...] |

Alarming Changes - 6/1/2007
Peoria is one of many communities that make up Maricopa County, AZ (which, by the way is larger than the State of NJ). The "Valley" is growing so fast it is being referred to as "LA East". Housing, industries (light/heavy) are growing uncontrolled, public transportation is lagging, commercial plus commute transportation is taking it's toll, (causing) poor air quality (see the AZ Republic (daily)), medical staff suffering, many services playing catch-up, 'n the population is exploding. Electric power is 'questionnable and so are the water resources ... and yet the population is encouraged to grow. The infratructure need tax $$'s. Also ... it's Hotter'n H--L here (see 'electric' power above)seven months of the year.
Other than that ... .. .etc.[read more...] |

Bad drivers and nutjobs aplenty - 5/31/2007
There are quite a few horrible drivers in Peoria. Apparently, no one knows how to use their turn signal. I was also road raged on Memorial Day. The woman was nuts. She threatened to break my finger! Whew! Someone needs some shock therapy! I have only lived here since November and I was already road raged, but I guess it's an improvement considering I was road raged in Chandler after only 2 weeks, so I guess things are looking up.
Peoria is all over the place. I can't figure out sometimes whether I'm in Peoria or Glendale. Glendale by the way, is gross. You got the Arrowhead Mall and that's about it. It starts looking mighty crusty from 60th Ave on down.
The nightlife is pretty bleak. Not much to do here. There's a roller skating rink or two. And I think I saw a bowling alley. AZ just sucks. There is no culture here or fun places to go. And everyone hates one another. So many nasty people, and they get nastier every year. No one is FROM AZ, they're all from someplace else, and I think it just annoys everyone. There is also a lot of Mexicans/Hispanics here.
No need to mention the heat. I think we all know it gets to be over 115 in the summer.[read more...] |

Peoria, Arizona - 8/17/2005
Full of old people who drive really slow. A normal 5 minute drive will take on average 2-2.5 hours. People also drive like maniacs, every time you drive you have a 95% chance of being cut off, side swiped, or rear ended. Don't be surprised to see someone drive into the side of someones house and later, act like it's the homeowners fault for him drivinging into the house.[read more...] |
