Fremont has nice weather: mild year-round, and some late summer and early spring waves just to keep you guessing. It's November and we just had our first 'storm', which consists of lots of wind and some thunder and rain. Next day, it's sunny again! Spring has more rain, ans summer seems to come later than I want, usually July. Fall is nice, leaves turn, some sprinkles, but pleasant enough to take a walk in the evening. The three families who own our business are very fortunate to be able to have started this business 5 years ago, with only the capital in our homes, some of our retirements/investments and some investor's money. Our children have scholarships to a private Christian School connected to our church and or are homeschooled. Our families have helped us out when we needed it from time to time. The climate is moderate, the crime rate is reportedly very low and the area is very multicultural. Housing is expensive and becoming less so, with the economy. We all have balloon payments that have adjusted down. As employers, we pay our bills & payroll ect. first and ourselves last. We all have sizable unsecured debt that we have not been able to pay down. Our business is thriving, but the founder's family is not doing as well. We have no retirement, and need some breathing room, ie money so that we can pay the debts off. The other two families have retirement and investments still and family that lives in the area and helps out on a regular basis. If the founder leaves, then the heart of the company is gone. I am the founder's wife, here. I have never been fond of this area. Too fast paced, never any money to spend. It costs too much to live here. I don't need all the culture. Personally, I would love to have some breathing room to be able to paint, draw, sculpt without always having to worry about money and expenses and feel I have to have a full time job to help out. My husband is so busy that he can't even consider moving. I am a former Navy brat and have no problem with it. My husband's concern is being able to find quality software engineers and artists to work for our company...of which he does alot of it, because we can't afford to hire people anyway. The other families are open to moving, but have family here and it is far down on their list. Our company is a one of a kind and I think potential employees would seek us out and travel to us. It would be more condusive if the cost of living/housing were much cheaper as well. I am on this site, because, my husband is tired of me complaining and I want to explore areas in the US that our business could fit into, that would have some of the community that we have and at the same time a much more reasonable cost of living for us personally and for our business as well. Fremont is one of the nicest organized cities to live in. Although it is not on the peninsula it ic close enough to San Francisco and public transportation is abundant and reliable. Except for a few hot days during the summer this East bay city is a real gem when it comes to the weather. In addition there are ample things to do and see here with the most any outdoor activity within an hours drive or less.[read more...]

Definitely nothing exciting about Fremont but it provides a cheaper alternative to life in the middle of Silicon Valley. Recreation is around near and far if you look - many parks/trails in the surrounding foothills. San Francisco a train ride away. I have lived in Fremont for the past 28 years. The winter temperature ranges from a typical midday low in the 40s to a typical midday high in the 80s in the summer. We may experience a couple of weeks in the summer of days in the 90s. Our rainy season is primarily contained to the months of December through March and snow would be a once in a lifetime event.[read more...]

I have raised four children in the Fremont Community since 1991.The wide range of school activities, after school curricular classes, and large assortment of educational choices for all family values. Fremont received a huge upsurge of economy during the Clinton years, and huge pouring in of immgrants from all over the world workforce with a giant demand for high tech employable workers,engineers,bio tech,and numerous firms received great employees along the way! The parks,the seashore,wildlife and mountains are all in harmony bringing together cultures from all over the world! Fremont is still a growing community, and offers highly paid wages, great education for children and adults, and the quality of life is in continuous change,as the new B.A.R.T is being completed, and the high tech companies bring more new growth here in the future! I recently moved here with my girlfriend (we're in our late 20's) near Fremont Central Park. I work in Santa Clara and she works in Pleasanton. Our apartment is gorgeous with panoramic views of the mission hills and Lake Elizabeth. We're less than a quarter mile from the police station so that keeps most of the wrong types of people away. Although we paid a premium to live here we couldn't be happier. I'm white and my girl's Asian. We're pretty used to being around different cultures but Fremont will test anyone. I think the city stats are off because Indian and Asian seem like the main two races here with white a distant third. For example, on a busy day at the lake I walked the 2.5 miles and counted 12 people out of 100 were white. Like any city, it's a trade-off between having tons of stuff to do and dealing with the occasional crack-head. Over-all I'm happy and the neighbors just seem shy at best.[read more...]

I no longer live in Fremont, and I would not move back. Diversity is great and all, but when certain people walk in the streets pushing strollers to avoid the "path of the infidels" (aka sidewalks) it becomes somewhat discusting to live there. 880 and 680 are in constant gridlock, mostly from the smart people who commute to San Jose from places further north. No downtown, nothing to offer. Pediatrician couldnt qualify for a mortgage on a fixer upper here without a winning lottery ticket. And if you want an apartment, be careful, as this is where the slums of Fremont are neatly tucked behind walls. Although it is a great location if youre looking for a hotel, its just toxic and inhospitable as a place to live.[read more...]

The schools and neighborhoods are not worth the extraordinarily high cost to live here. Young couples often cannot afford to but their first home without significant help from parents. With no real "downtown:, an overrated public school system and unfriendly neighbors, living in Fremont is not worth the cost.[read more...]

Been a long term Fremont resident. Its the geographic center of the bay area that attracted me to this place - kind of equidistant to San Francisco as it is to San Jose. Quiet town, and great place to send your kids to school - probably some of the best public schools in California are located here. Other than that, the city depends on its neighboring cities for shopping, entertainment and restaurants. Although some shopping areas have been added recently, most are pretty generic stuff.[read more...]

I find Fremont a good choice for living considering all of the following: cost of housing: as reasonable as it gets in the bay area location: close to the freeway, BART subway access, midway between San Francisco, San Jose, & Dublin/Pleasanton schools: a respectable collection of elementary & high schools crime: reasonably low[read more...]

the pluses of fremont include: -bart station if you need to travel to sfo for work etc. -better choice of restaurants than san jose for instance. -the ardenwood portion is lucky to have a good schools. -malls & shopping closeby -cosmopolitan community representative of the rest of the bay area. -quite a few software/hardware firms closeby for those of you that work in those areas. negatives include: -high cost of housing even if you live in a not-so-hot school district. -driving *anywhere* is a nightmare -apartment communities even in the "good" parts of town are like slums.[read more...]

I've lived in the Bay Area all of my life, the past nine years of it here in Fremont. Fremont had always been considered the "Bedroom City" because all people did was sleep here, while they worked and played elsewhere around the bay, but things are slowly changing. We have a few nice restaurants, some galleries and unique stores, a historical California Mission, a small theater group that produces three to five plays a year, symphony and we even have a place that plays live music. There are several hiking and walking areas, and we have a great walking/biking trail that goes from the hills to the bay. Just about anything you might want to do can be done here, although maybe on a smaller scale. City & School government are led by community members who are involved and dedicated, although they are inclined to play to the politics and sometimes make decisions that seem to serve their future positions over a current issue. Typical politicians, but they do care. While it is not my favorite area of the region, it is a well located city, with major freeways and bridges nearby that will get you just about anywhere in the bay area in about 20-30 minutes. The cultures and people are hugely diverse, and most seem to get along. The division among cultures and race is not as great as I've seen in other cities. Playgrounds and restaurants are filled with groups of people from various backgrounds. It's a great place to get to know your neighbor, who is likely to have a differnt ethnicity than you.[read more...]
