New College Grads - 6/26/2008

I live in Rialto, about 1 hour outside of Los Angeles, and even though it is cheaper than Los Angeles, the average college graduate cannot afford to stay here. First, there are no nice apartment complexes to live in in Rialto. Most people want to live in Rancho Cucamonga, 10 minutes away. Unfortunately the average one bedroom starts at $1050.00 and goes up from there. When you are getting out of college and barely making $28,000.00 a year, with student loans to pay back, the going rent is unbearable. If you don't already live here, don't come here.[read more...]

Rialto...Don't move here! - 5/14/2007

I wouldn't say the people here are especially unfriendly. They are typical for California. We're not unfriendly, we've just been taught to be extremely cautious and keep to ourselves. Rialto is a pretty big suburb/city located about an hour outside of Los Angeles. Although there isn't much to do within the city itself, there are various opportunities for shopping and entertainment within 15 minutes. Most houses aren't worth there half a million dollar price tag. There isn't much else to say.[read more...]

Welcome to Rialto - 1/28/2007

Well, we happened upon Rialto because we, to be succinct, could not afford Rancho Cucamonga, which boasts the best schools, best places "for women", etc., Our realtor told us that you are really just paying for a zip code (in 2003). We looked at houses in Rancho. Nice, expensive. At that time, the same house in Rancho Cucamonga, compared to the house here would have cost, and I'm truthful, $75-100K more. 2 exits N on the 15 freeway. So why wouldn't we live here? This is a "culturally diverse" group. Hispanic, Black, White. All educated. We're in N. Rialto, just below the Cajon Pass. Look at a map. There is an entertainment venue which is one exit to our N. Everyone from Ozzie to Barry Manilow. Mountainous area just to our West. Moutain resorts just 20-45 minutes away. (Arrowhead, Big Bear, Mountain High) Negative: the wind blows steady for 2-3 months every year. I don't mean a nice refreshing breeze. It's like the Haunted Mansion. Forget about having a hair-do, or bringing a science project to your kid's classroom, having an outdoor event then, etc., ! Positive: N. Rialto has the lowest crime rate in all Rialto. (Sierra + Riverside. And as I write this, there is building going on like crazy to our S, N, and W going toward Fontana. Rialto PD is trying to improve the S. Rialto areas. We have responsible neighbors. Quite neighborhood. If you move here you'll learn about July 4th. Just go for it.[read more...]

Too much building, traffic, horrible roads, and SM - 7/12/2006

I have lived in Rialto for 9 years and in this time the city has not improved anything. There is so much building and construction going on in the surrounding areas but nothing has been added to our area in over 12 years accept of course houses so they make more money. I live in the North end which is the best part and the roads are covered in potholes and we pay enough taxes here (and they go up every year) to have plenty of improvements but we get none. Our neighborhood is great,we are fortunate we know many good people. The traffic itself in California alone is a whole other story. It takes you 30 minutes to get 10 minutes away. The air quality here is the worst in the nation. All you see, if you can see through it, is a thick brown layer of pollution and our DMV fees we paty to help cut this down is just another way for California to suck out every dollar you make just to live here![read more...]
