Beautiful, friendly town - cost of living is outra - 11/14/2008
We love, love, love San Anselmo. It has great schools, is very walkable/bikeable, is not a far walk or bike from that funky town of Fairfax, everyone is friendly! Very family oriented but also lots of empty nesters still about.
The drawback is that the commute on public transportation into the city (San Francisco) can be 1.5 hours - or you have to drive on the very crowded freeway for an hour (only 35 minutes to SF if there is no traffic). If you have a flexible work situation and make lots of money, this is a great place. But in order to afford it, many folks have to work long hours and commute a distance....not so good.[read more...] |

May Not Be Affordable - 5/8/2007
We love it here, but the cost of housing is astronomical, and has us rethinking whether we can stay here much longer. Considering first mortgage, second mortgage and property taxes, our housing cost is between $7,000 and $8,000 per month. That's a high percentage of our monthly income, and when we think about saving for retirement (which the high housing cost has made nearly impossible), it's not pretty picture.[read more...] |
