Living in the Heart of the City! - 3/24/2010
I have lived side by side with office buildings for the past 3+ years, and I love it. I love the convenience of walking 2 blocks to work, coming home for lunch, saving money for gas and parking and the reduced stress on my life. From my location, I am equal distance to a number of more bucolic recreational spots which I journey to whenever I have free time. It's perfect.[read more...] |

apartments - 2/12/2009
I live in apartments near the PA border....very convenient location to places ike Target, Best Buy, Walmart, etc......the rent for a 1 BR in a decent safe place is at least going to run 800/month if not more....No sales tax makes it a nice place to shop but the general feel of the area is rather boring and routine.[read more...] |

Moderate Living - 1/25/2008
The cost of living in Wilmington, Delaware is what I would consider "moderate" -- not as high as some of the surrounding big cities (i.e., Baltimore, Philadelphia, etc.), but not as low as what some call "slower" Delaware (the lower two counties). Apartments can range in price anywhere from $800 to $1500 for a two bedroom. Slightly south of the city, apartments are a little lower ($700/mo.). Housing tends to run in the mid $100s and up for ranch homes and townhomes. Naturally, the larger the home and more property, the higher the price.
Average median income is $30,000, with average household income running around $55,000.[read more...] |

Great place to live. - 9/24/2007
Wilmington, DE has been a great place to live for the last six years. Prior to this address we have lived in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island and New York State. The cost of living, compared to other Northeast locations, is moderate to low with no state sales tax, low housing and property taxes being major contributors. The location is also superb as it is two hours drive to New York City, 90 minutes to Baltimore, less than two hours to Washington DC, 90 minutes to the Delaware Beaches, two hours to skiing in the Catskills, one hour to great water sports on the Cheasapeake Bay, etc., etc., etc. Temperatures are also more moderate then New England and as boaters we find about 40 to 60 more good boating days on the Bay than we did in Massachusetts. We are currently evaluating Delaware as a retirement location based on our great experiences to date.[read more...] |

Summers are too much - 7/31/2007
It's not the heat, it's the humidity that kills you. I have zero tolerance for humidity, so that's why I'm looking to leave Delaware. Plus, in the winter when it does snow, the mere forecast sends everyone fleeing to the market to get milk and bread. A few inches of snow here will cripple the area...and everyone drives SUVs![read more...] |

good, bad, ugly - 9/5/2006
Wilmington has lots of potential with mega-million waterfront development 1/2 way complete. Decent jobs and parks, some nice people, proximaty to Philly, NY ect. BUT there's ingrained ghetto mentality-angry hostile attitudes combined with do-nothing city administration= wear a bulletproof vest when you walk the dog and bring your mace.[read more...] |

Good to bad to worse - 3/24/2006
I moved to North Wilmington in 2004, into an isolated house near the Brandywine Park. Loved it the first year, park wasn't too crowded, a few nice wineries nearby, and a lot of wildlife in my yard. I don't know what happened, but about late 2005 it started to get really crowded in the area, on the roads, and in the park. People got really rude, tailgating became common, and illegals were all over the place. Crime went up. I guess the secret got out. Housing prices and property taxes began to spiral up. The rich got richer. I got out of there, quick![read more...] |
