Interlachen, FL is a small town in Putnam County with a population of around 1,000 people. It is known for its natural beauty with lush green vegetation and clear blue skies. Great potential; when it leaves the dark ages. - 10/1/2010
Lived in the area for 4 years.
I still believe the area itself is high in its potential to be a wonderful place to live, but the people have got to be willing to change. Abundant nature & wildlife. Good fishing & boating are all close by. Not a bad 25 minute drive to Gainesville (Home of UF "Gators").
That being said, the town population is a very high religious, republican, welfare town.... That's right, conventional wisdom is defied here.. The God and Guns vote trumps the political Republican agenda against so-called "socialism" here.. Yet, everyone has their food stamps. Which leads into my next statement; POOR education! Not totally the teachers fault, however, when you begin a science lesson to students (such as the process of evolution) with a disclaimer of, "this is not what 'I' believe", the system has issues. Interlachen is a historical town with a small population. Great place to retire or enjoy a slower pace of life. There has not been growth in sometime, however, the state is in the process of having a 4 lane highway on State Road 20. It is an Indian name that means between the lakes. The many lakes have made it a very popular getaway for water sports and fishing. Many of the old historical homes were hotels back in the day before the big freeze that killed the citrus.
