Jupiter Florida - 1/14/2011

I have been living in Jupiter Florida for 13 years in a gated beachfront community called Xanadu by the Sea. A community of about 60 homes the community backs to Carlin Park to the north which gives you beautiful preserve views as well as lake views. Just across the street we have a beautiful beach that is dog friendly. A short walk is Jupiter Inlet to the north and Juno Pier to the south. We have a 7 mile bike lane that runs along the ocean as well as a sidewalk too. Shopping, restaurants and bars are just minutes away. It is by far one of the most beautiful places to live in Florida. Look at homes here.[read more...]

Attitudes - 11/12/2008

Living in South Florida (Jupiter) is wonderful...temps are warm, the water is green, the people are friendly....well, maybe not that friendly. Visitors should beware TWO "attitudes" which prevail, each in it's "season". The first is the "vacation" attitude which flies south with the annual "snowbird" influx. This attitude, understandably, sounds very much like the chirpings of the affluent, over-indulgent, ever-demanding, two-nested Northern Crank. The other "attitude", much more subtle and surprising to the unwary, is probably, to some degree, a result of the first. Even the local residents, those fortunate to reside here year-round,are wary of the sly and unscrupulous GreenBack Gouger. Always a threat, the GBG is most evident when the Snowbird is in residence. Look for high prices, shoddy workmanship or product, and a very offensive "take-it-or-leave-it" shrug in the shoulder area. Although prevalent in all of South Florida, both "attitudes" seem to increase as one gets closer to salt water. But we love it! After all these years, we still watch the weather report to see all the snow we aren't getting.[read more...]

Young and in Jupiter - 7/26/2008

I think if I was older or with a family I would love to live in Jupiter. It is a quaint coastal town with beautiful (dog friendly) beaches. But it is just a bit too quiet for my tastes. Mind you the more populous and "happening" west palm beach is just 20 minutes down the road. Still as a former Miami beach local, I must say that I miss to eclectic crowds and electric chaos of Miami compared to Jupiter. But, then again having a beautiful beach with aqua blue water almost enitrely to yourself isn't that bad wither. To have Jupiter as an escape from Miami would be my ideal situation I think. Live, work and play in Miami, and escape and relax in Jupiter.[read more...]

Quaint, coastal community - 5/20/2008

We've recently relocated to Jupiter from Portland, OR. The two couldn't be more different. Jupiter is a quaint, little coastal town slightly north of West Palm Beach. The cost of living is relatively high, however, the current housing slump has brought the price of homes down substantially making Jupiter more affordable for middle-class families. Expect to pay high property taxes, insurance, and HOA fees though. That is where the real sticker shock kicks in. The beaches are beauiful and the people, for the most part, are friendly. Coming from Portland, I would say that Jupiter is quite a bit more conservative. If you have a good paying job, a family, and a desire to live close to the ocean, Jupiter is a good option.[read more...]
