tiny lots - not great - 9/18/2010
Rockledge and Viera have tiny housing lots, but the land here is very cheap. Is strange that builders would not have had large lots for most developments. As a result, there is terrible laundry product (the recent stinky toxic stuff) spewing out into the neighborhoods. The air around Viera, especially, is terrible because of this.
You are close to the beach, which is positive. The county is very poor, so most people here don't have money to improve their properties. If you have any assets, you don't want to move here because of all the deadbeats - you'll be paying for them.
If this town and county were not so polluted with all these sickening chemicals, would rate it much higher. Still would have a hard time rating it very high because of the low income.[read more...] |

If you like living in a chemical slew - Rockledge - 9/17/2010
There is a large Walmart in the middle of Viera, close to Rockledge, and seems that everyone shops there. They purchase loads of scented laundry products, air freshener, and scented candles and "plug-ins." Have never lived around people so stupid that they don't realize that this stuff is toxic. Everywhere we go, the air is contaminated from their dryer vents blowing this junk out into the air we breathe. Is a tremendous problem in the high density neighborhoods in Viera and Rockledge. On top of that, have not been to anyone's house here where they don't contaminate their household air with these scented products. Is really gross. When you have people so stupid, they are more gullible to marketing, so P&G and Walmart have these folks in the bag. It is so bad that I avoid the Viera/Rockledge area and spend much more time in Melbourne, where the environment is better. It is a growing problem, but when you have a high population of uneducated types like Viera and Rockledge, it will be much more of a problem. They have even contaminated their beaches here with all that scented crap on their clothes and body. No more fresh, salty beach air here in Brevard county.[read more...] |

Great place to live - 7/31/2008
I have lived in Rockledge and Melbourne for over 20 years. The beach is close. Schools are good in Brevard County. There is an abundance of jobs. Stay away from Titusville and Palm Bay. Viera is really your best bet. Indialantic is also very nice. Big town stuff like Disney Westside, Planet Hollywood, Disney Boardwalk, Universal City Walk, Downtown Orlando, Church Street Station, etc.. are less than an hour away. UCF has classes there at BCC campuses. The Avenues is nice in Viera. Lots of high tech industry such as Northrup Grumman, L3, Harris, GE, etc.. There are alot of retired people in Suntree which can be a pro or con. The biggest con is the summer heat and humidity, but the other 8 months are great. Melbourne also has an intl airport which is convenient. Cost of living is cheap. You get southern hospitality in most areas except with all the Cali and NY transplants, most of them come around though. Space Center is nearby. Lots of beach, rivers and lakes if you like waterfront property. Lots of engineers and dentists. The Avenues is a nice new outdoor mall in Viera. Oh yeah another pro/con is the hurricanes, a pro if you like to surf. Another con is the shuttle program is ending but im sure NASA will be busy still going to the moon and mars. There are also a ton of golf courses everywhere. Low crime. Seems the air quality got a low rating but there isn't any pollution, must be due to UV rays, it is the sunshine state. I have moved around a bit and am almost positive it doesn't get much better than this.[read more...] |

We're Moving - 1/18/2007
Hi, I'm Brigette. My family and I are wanting to move in about 2 years. Central Florida is a beautiful place to live, though the cost of buying a house is getting ridiculous. There is no seasons and summer almost kills you..... but I have lived here all my life and it is so hard deciding even where to move. My husband wants to move up north, SC or NC. I really hope this site can help in our decision making.

Growing Town - 11/2/2005
I grew up in Rockledge, left and then came back. Rockledge is starting to develop quite a bit. I am excited about this development but I also fear it will become too crowded (traffic is already getting annoying) and overdeveloped. It is still quaint and just outside larger towns with more entertainment and things to see and do.[read more...] |

Great small town - 10/13/2005
The city officials of Rockledge know how to care for this town. They have kept a small town feeling and work hard to insure the integrity of the town. The roads are in great shape and Rockledge is one of few cities in Brevard County who actually manages to maintain the public services within it's annual budget.[read more...] |
