If you do not like to see big white crosses on the - 6/15/2011

St Cloud Florida is a lovely place to view but not a place to live in if your beliefs are not Catholic. They seem to sniff around and find those they think is anything but what they believe in and shun you no matter how nice they seem to be It is not a place to live and be happy unless your beliefs are the same as theirs. This is not a place to bring up children as well unless you want them to learn to turn up their noses on those who are of a different race as yours or if your beliefs are different as well, St Cloud is still a part of history and has not grown. No upscale restaurants. movie houses or entertainment as well.[read more...]

Don't come here! - 2/11/2010

I would not recommend the St. Cloud area (or any of Osceola County) to anyone. We moved here in 2007 from Jacksonville and I have never been pleased. My oldest child has been able to escape middle school without too much damage, as he is academically gifted, but there is no way I would let him attend high school here. My youngest is also advanced, and does attend an excellent elementary school, but I think that is just our good luck. The county population is 50% hispanic and the schools have to spend too much time and money trying to get the students - whose parents refuse to speak english - to become literate. The county goverernment is an embarassment and the school board is all about the struggle for control. There is no decent shopping here. St. Cloud has one crappy Super WalMart, that I can't stand to go into. I have to get on the Turnpike and travel 20 minutes just to go to Target. The whole theme park thing is overrated. Disney has a strangle hold on tourism and is WAY over priced. The majority of the local workforce is low wage service industry based on tourism. The kids' sports leagues (particularly Pop Warner football) are dominated by original (founding?)family coaches and are very cliquish, so if they don't know you or your kid, they probably won't play them. The cost of living here is suprisingly high - utility costs are one of the highest in the state. Real estate taxes will continue to go up to make up for the shortfall due to the high foreclosure rate. Bottom line: We are getting out as soon as the school year is over, when we will probably have to take a big loss on our brand new home. I'm not sure where we will end up, but I am not coming back here.[read more...]
