Infrastructure not supporting growth - 4/18/2012
Canton is located north of Atlanta so location is good but one has to bear the traffic to get anywhere. I have lived in Canton for 13 years and frustrated with the traffic and the lack of infrastructure to keep up with the growth. The main highway is being re-constructed and widened and has had a large shopping area added at the interstate. A large hospital is also in the works. This is causing traffic nightmares. I have run out of patience, and blame the very poor planning. Can't see what they are working on will support it when all is said and done.
Guess I need a change because finding the ten commandments posted at the courthouse does not support the various religions here in Canton; assuming everyone is Protestant. (A clerk at a local grocery store asked me what church I go to and was shocked.)
Need more recreation and parks; and if you have any allergies such as pollen, this won't be for you, though the many trees and wildlife can be enjoyable. Canton can also be in the path of tornadoes.
I find the taxes rather high as compared to other areas outside the metro Atlanta area.
Not totally unhappy but think I can find a better area, maybe a better state to retire to.
Maybe I need a change?[read more...] |

Too religious for me - 1/4/2010
I find the citizens here are not open minded about other religions other than Protestant/ Christianity. I also find they expect everyone to be their religion. When I first moved to this county even the grocery clerks would ask what church I go to; and the County Administration building posted the Ten Commandments in their lobby for all to see. I feel this is disrespectful to others that are not of the same belief. It is nothing for a school in this area (county next to Cherokee) to pass out the New Testament to students as they walk in the door. My religion is personal and I choose not to discuss my beliefs so openly.[read more...] |

Not an open minded area, nor very educated - 6/21/2009
I have lived in Canton for over 11 years and am ready to move on. I personally find the culture to be backwards, and the people --not so open minded. Religion is very important here and seems to dominate the county in education and politics. As a college professor, education is below average and I am simply amazed that many are allowed to graduate, but parents get their way first. Whine and your kid will graduate.
You will be okay if you are Baptist and devout, born and raised in the south. The county is growing rapidly but the infrastructure is not. Police have become very aggressive in the time I have been here. The county government seeks to oust illegals, almost embarrassing but at the taxpayers expense. I find racism still exists in the south. (and I am white) You can tell I have become very disillusioned with this area over time. ---but my opinion. Hot and humid too![read more...] |

Bad Area for Asthma and Allergy Sufferers - 5/8/2009
I moved to the Atlanta area in 1987 and did not have any outside allergies. In 2007, I was diagnosed with Reactive Airway Disease and have a very difficult time in the spring here.
I am considering moving, a drastic change as I have a business here, and have visited your website to see if there are any cities in the US that are less likely to make my life so miserable.[read more...] |
