Many people who were raised here actually think it is a great place. College kids complain it is boring. Southwire employees are happy they've got jobs. UWG professors often prefer to live in Atlanta where they can send their kids to decent schools and feel culture. There are some good food options on the Square- light years better than the two chains Jessica mentioned. There is a lot of drug dealing, but not locally. Carrollton is a drug-hub, something like a transit center. Crime is not felt by most people here. House sale prices are very low these days. Rental prices are too high for the location. Lots of white trash posing as normal people. Southern Christian smallness of the mind blocks creativity, connected community, and optimism. The people who love Carrollton are the ones from smaller, more backwards towns. If you've tasted a great small town, like an Asheville, Boulder, Eugene, or Ithaca, you'll be very, very, very disappointed here.[read more...]

Carrollton is the epitome of 'below average'. It is a college town severely lacking in decent restaurants, (besides the obligatory Ruby Tuesdays and Applebee's) nightlife, and culture. There is nothing interesting or special about this town, and it remains a hotbed of crime and drug dealers. The only saving grace is the historic downtown area and the University of West Georgia. There is a struggling artistic culture here, but it is minimal and limited to the downtown area. Nobody likes living here, and Carrolltonians are generally lower-class and poorly educated. I would rank this town just above anywhere in south Georgia and way below anywhere near Atlanta. [read more...]
