Lack of Quality of Life - 12/23/2011

I have lived in Jesup for several years but have lived near Wayne County for almost 30 years. Jesup isn't the place for families, there is no economic development, small minded leadership, and a racist community just to name a few. There is outdoor recreation like hunting, fishing, and county recreation sports but these cater to the locals who have been raised here. Jesup has the potential to be a truly great community as it's located in southeast Georgia. The weather is great year round, close proximity to Savannah, GA and Jacksonville, FL which both are within 1.5 hours drive, Macon, GA is 3 hours away and Atlanta, GA is 4 hours away. Jesup can be crossroads to many rural and middle GA communities and it does have the small town friendly feel. The people are friendly, however, if you aren't from here then you will always be a guest and you never truly become part of the community. The school system is at it's worst and there are no quality of life perks that would make someone want to stay here. Most people move here to take a job at Rayonier Paper Mill however many choose to live in Glynn County. [read more...]

RE: Economy - 4/7/2010

My review of Wayne County since I have lived here my whole life is that as a community we have the lowest job unemployment rate and spending costs are not what they should be. There are no jobs here and any job that does come up you have to be certified, have some kind of license to perform the job, and you at least have to have some kind of experience in that particular job. My concern on this is to build more places to work for those who are unemployed or have been layed off due to the economy in loss of revinue. I have seen with my own eyes that due to the economy in Wayne County more and more burgularies have happened. It has became a more (gang activious) affiliated community in which the youth are joining more gangs and are becoming incarcerated at the age of at least 15 (fifteen). So my view on Wayne County is that if there were more job opportunities then the community would be a much safer and a non-hazardous place in which our youth could stay out of being incarcerated and be able to work.[read more...]

Jesup, Ga -- Wild Weather - 11/4/2007

The weather in Jesup, GA can be unpredictable. Known for it's long droughts, this spring and summer saw record rainfalls. In fact, in the city recently, they received 6 inches of rain within a one hour time period, while not 5 minutes south of the town, they received only 3 inches total. While the winters can be cool, they are usually quite mild, with highs sometimes reaching in to the uppers 60s to low 70s in late December or early January. The summers are classically Southern, with high humidity and swealtering temperatures. All ripe conditions for those pesky gnats and mosquitos, some the size of moths.[read more...]
