Alton sits on the ms.river surronded by high bluffs. It use to be a very busy industrial part of Il. Over the years it has lost almost all of it's industry and unemployment is very high. It has a high crime rate and has become an unsafe place to live. It has many historical buildings and part of the old Alton prison used in the Civil War for southern prisoners still stands.
