My Town - 7/20/2009

Minooka, IL is a formally rural based, agricultural town, 54 miles southwest of Chicago. In the past 10 years, as housing costs have increased, the town has grown from 1500 people to 7000 +. The economic downturn has actually helped the community by allowing the growth to slow and school populations to settle. Minooka is generally a traditional middle class town. One downfall, I believe, is the excess of Section 8 housing creating an environment for crime.[read more...]

Little Minooka - 8/11/2007

Minooka, though slowly growing is still a small town with its little bustling shops and corn fields surrounding it. It has lost its little village atmosphere and has become impersonal to some degree. Industrial parks are being built all over the area and trucks abound, holding up traffic and making it quite dangerous for children to walk or ride their bikes in certain areas. Crime is not as bad as other areas, but it does have its problems. All in all, it is a good place to live as yet.[read more...]
