Cost of Living in Saint Charles - 4/9/2010
Moving to Saint Charles from Kansas City was quite to sticker shock from a cost of living standpoint. I did do my homework and knew this would be the case, but it didn't hit me until after a few months here and we reviewed our budget. It is amazing to me that such a huge metropolis like the Chicagoland area is that there wouldn't be more efficiencies. I know being a metropolis they experience high demand on things driving the overall price for them up. However, the high tax rates on gasoline, properties, etc. is somewhat askew. The housing market bust is a good example of how this city got fat, dumb and happy off of artificially inflated pricing based on consumer demand. I would assume that the excess of taxes we have to pay in Illinois and the many villages that make up the Chicagoland area are to pay for all the litigation that continues to be perpetuated by corrupt government officials. Welcome to the Windy City - a lot of hot air in the lip service coming out of the wind bags that represent the city and state government of Illinois.[read more...] |

Great Small Town - 8/26/2008
St. Charles is a nice safe and clean community with a very lively downtown that straddles the Fox River. Downtown St. Charles has around 20 or so restraunts and pubs some with outdoor seating. There is also a historic hotel, some neat architecture, expansive parks and a great turn of the century performing arts theater. It is a great weekend scene with bikers and walker passing through downtonw on the river trail, antique shoppers, canoes, people fishing in waders at the base of the spill over damn, outdoor cafe/pub scene, boutiques, et... The town is also is bordered by forest preserves and farmland.[read more...] |

West Side of the Fox River - 1/9/2008
We moved to this area two years ago for neighborhoods with larger homesites, 1-3 acres is common the farther west you go. There are still some horse farms with more land which is very nice. All the popular places to shop & dine are minutes away. Two major expressways are equal distance either north or south. The historic downtown district offers spectacular family events year round. We absolutely love it here in spite of high taxes.[read more...] |
