nice place to live - 7/28/2009

i've been living in yorkville for 2 years now. we have 2 young children. the economy here is good it's easy to find a job. i feel the housing is over priced, but that is coming down lately to be more reasonable. the taxes are too high. it's about an hour from chicago, so the weather is just what you would expect from this area, long cold winters, short hot summers. people are friendly. parents are very involved in school activities. the schools are good and not overcrowded, with caring teachers. the shopping and dining, could be better, but is improving quickly. the town has lots of activities all year round. if you are looking for a town close to chicago. yorkville is much nicer than some of the other towns i have lived in around here, aurora-too much crime and bad schools gang problems, montgomery-nothing to do, naperville-overcrowded schools way overpriced homes, wheaton-snobby, lisle, elgin, too "city" for my taste. i like a small town feel/look with farms but close to city activities. i really enjoy living in yorkville. plus the new waterpark is super fun in the summer.[read more...]
