Great town to live in - if you can stand the summe - 7/10/2012

I moved to Fishers 2 1/2 years ago for a new job in nearby Indianapolis. Since then I've taken a work from home job, so it doesn't matter where I live. Fishers has been a great town to live in, except I find I dislike the hot summers. I grew up in Ohio and used to like the Mid-West weather. In the past several years summers in this part of the country have gotten hotter. Too bad because Fishers otherwise has what I consider the best qualities: low taxes, inexpensive housing, very low crime, moderate cost-of-living and great shopping with Indy close by.[read more...]

Busy, but Livable - 2/17/2009

I've lived in Fishers now for fifteen years. It has grown tremendously, but still maintains a slower pace of life than other places. Great place for families. The cost of living is very good. It is a lot less expensive for most goods than other states. We are the crossroads of America, so we get a good amount of a lot of different commodities and consumer goods. Cheers.[read more...]

Why Fishers, Indiana is the Best Place to Raise a - 9/11/2008

Fishers, Indiana was once a small farming town just outside of Indianapolis in Hamilton County, Indiana. Size: Still a "town" and not a "city" Fishers offers the feel of a small town, but the population has grown to just over 66,000, mostly young families who are drawn to Fishers because of it's close proximity to Indianapolis. Employment: Fishers is a well-educated community with many white-collar professionals who work within a 30 minute commute. The largest employers in Fishers are HSE Schools, Forum Credit Union and Salle Mae. Education: Hamilton Southeastern Schools consists of two high schools, three Middle Schools, three Junior High Schools and twelve elementary schools. HSE Schools scored 1092 on the most recent SATs, compared with the national average of 1017. Almost 92% of HSE students attend college. HSE Schools rank 6th in the state for SAT scores. Housing: Indianapolis offers one of the most affordable markets in the U.S. based on income to home price. The average price of a 3 bedroom, 2 bath home in Fishers for 2007-2008 is $160,000 with an average of 71 days on the market. The average income in Fishers is $84,000. There is a wide variety of housing options available in Fishers: condos, townhomes, apartment homes and entry level to $1 million plus estate homes. Community: Every June Fishers hosts the Fishers Freedom Festival in Holland Park which is a large park in the center of town. Fishers Freedom Festival kicks off with a parade through Fishers' quaint "downtown" area, then ends with an evening of music and fireworks. Summers bring free Tuesday night concerts on the lawn across from the town hall. Residents walk to the library, post office, park, and many small restaurants. Geist Lake, which borders Fishers, Indianapolis, and McCordsville, offers boating, fishing and a marina. Fishers YMCA is a state of the art health center offering swimming, spinning, cardio, weightlifting, dance, yoga, pilates and all sorts of little league sports. Life in Fishers seems to be centered around raising healthy, wholesome children who have the opportunity to partake of and contribute to the community at large. [read more...]

Affordable Fishers - 3/17/2008

Fishers, IN seems affordable because most of the new homes built in the past 8 years are made of vinyl, plasterboard, and plastic foam. These "affordable" homes rest on tiny lots carved out of corn fields. Fishers is surrounded by malls and apartment complexes and replete with fast food places, nail shops, and dry cleaners. And lots of traffic. The population has nearly doubled over the past 10 years with no significant adjustment to local highway infrastructure. If you enjoy long commutes to the city, asphalt, concrete, and cheesy retail, by all means, come to the Fishers/Noblesville area.[read more...]

Wonderful quality of life, but . . . - 9/28/2006

Having escaped from California before the Big Meltdowns, my family and I find living in the Midwest wonderful in everyway except one, the weather. Schools are excellent, neighbors friendly and helpful and the area is safe and clean. We would enjoy all the positive aspects of living in Fishers if it wasn't for all of the storms, tornado warnings, hail, freezing cold wind and everything else that falls from the sky except sunshine. I've only lived here 8 months and I'd take a fall of frogs over all of this. If it wasn't for the weather we'd love this place. If it wasn't for the place, we'd be enjoying the weather in California. Seacrest, out.[read more...]
