Murray. A great place to live - 12/22/2011
Ive lived in murry for 5 years. Originally from Southern California. People say there is nothing to do in Murray. Well, if your looking for someone to entertain you than, yes, you will be bored. You have to go out and find your fun. We have the greatest lakes and the funnest recreation at LBl. You have to get involved with the community wether it be helping out with the next play or volunteering or joining a group. The University always has something going as well as the Chamber of Commerce. Unfortunately, I moved my business here and now im too busy working to enjoy it all. The people here will give you the shirt off there backs once they get to know you. The cost of living is very low. We are finally able to save for retirement. The jobs are a bit scarce so if you come to the table with a skill, you will fair much better. If you are a great chef, we can definitely use some great food because some of the restaurants are lacking. Murray residents love to eat! Murray is a very small town with a very small feel but we are growing up![read more...] |

Murray, Kentucky -- Don't go there - 8/15/2011
Murry is a town that is not friendly to outsiders. If you are not born here the only thing they care about is your money. You automatically get a 25%+ increase in quotes if you do not have the local accent. They will lie to your face even though they are mostly of Baptist faith and participate in church. I believe they go to chuch on Sunday asking forgiveness for their sins commited all week believing they can start fresh on Monday. Greed is king here. Trust me. Don't retire here. We did and now we are leaving.[read more...] |

Overall - Don't Move to KY; but Western KY has 2 G - 10/30/2010
I agree with Stephany of Cave City, KY and her review posted on May 3, 2008. And let me add that her review is still dead on. Unless you were born here or have lots of money; you are considered an outsider and will most likely remain so until the day you die.
The 2 Greatest assets I have found in Murray are:
1. The Humane Society of Calloway County. With very little funding and most of the funds come from their own fund raising efforts; they do so very much for the animals in our county and outside our county. I have been involved with the Humane Society in every town I have lived in and not one of those Humane Society's could hold a candle to this one.
2. The Calloway County Senior Center is very friendly and kind to everyone. This is the only place that it does not matter if you are an outsider or not. The seniors that participate are genuinely kind, considerate, loving and friendly. Also, the Senior Center is run by a wonderful man that gives more than 110% of himself and his time. He makes sure that the Calloway County Seniors have several different programs. He makes sure that nutritional meals are available at a very reasonable rate. I am not a Senior, but I have been slightly involved with the center and I have several friends that are seniors and they inform me of what they love about the center and what they are not happy with. I would estimate that 98% of the Seniors are very satisfied with the Senior Center.[read more...] |
