Expensive living - 12/18/2005
Maine in general is an expensive place to live. Plus there really aren't very many well paying jobs. You'll see a lot of college grads working manufacturing jobs for $8-$10 an hour. Plus your average home is about $225000 or so and the taxes are outrageous. The maine government is lousy as well, and the people here continually vote against business, against lowering taxes (recentely against a cap on property tax, which is very high in Maine) and for borrowing (just voted to borrow another $72 million in bonds). My fiancee and I are looking for a cheaper place to live, hopefully one with better paying jobs, less taxes and people who actually have a clue when it comes to economics.[read more...] |
