The Truth About Sanford, Maine - 7/1/2010

Although Sanford, Maine may seem like a good, calm, and quiet place to live it's not. It seems beautiful with all of the trees and the ponds but it's not. Everything about Sanford is wrong. I've been living here for about two years and already hate it. If you still like Sanford after reading this, then you must be crazy and will fit right in. Sanfords School system is a joke. Kids aren't allowed to take their laptops home even though the school pays so much money just to RENT the laptops. The Junior High teachers are piss ants on power trips. They will give your child a detention for no reason. They don't teach your kids anything. The High School is better than the Junior High because the teachers are more understanding. But the school has "portables". Have you ever heard of a portable before? No, well its kind of like a bunch of trailers parked on the side of the school. Whether it's raining or snowing or hailing and your child has class in a portable they have to walk outside through it just to get to class. Places to live in Sanford are reasonably priced but all the landlords I've had to deal with want to control everything you do. Forget about owning a house here unless you make some good money. Finding a job here is ridiculous. You go in for an application and the people are so rude to you that you put the application back thinking, "I do not want to work with that person". You get judged everytime you order a McChicken. I'm not fat but even if I was, why do they care? The teenagers run around like they're better than you and I blame the parents. If the parents would put down the crack pipe and spend a little more time teaching their kids manners and respect I might want to leave my apartment. Yes, I still live here. No matter how much I can't stand it, I can't leave. Sanford has sucked all my money away. I lost my job after a month because I couldn't deal with the boss. Now I work minimum wage and can't afford to move back to Augusta, Maine. If you know what's good for you and your family, DO NOT MOVE TO SANFORD, MAINE.[read more...]

My Corner of the Wrld - 8/27/2009

After having lived in historical South Berwick, Maine I moved to Sanford 4 yrs. ago. It's quieter here, with , it seems, less history. I've taken walks around different neighborhoods in the city, trying to learn more about it. I work in a local retail store and just love my co-workers. It's peaceful in my neighborhood, and my husband and I enjoy property; nice yard, garden and pool. We gotten to know our neighbors, and like them. It's a diverse place. I like the location because it's handy to Portland, Portmouth, NH, and the train is available nearby, in Wells.[read more...]

Nice place to live but!! - 2/12/2008

Sanford and southern Maine are a great place to live but little professional and career opportunity. The State of Maine is also heavily burdened with taxation and although the slogan "Maine, the way life should be" may depict it's beauty, it should say "Maine, the way life should be if you can afford it!!" Raised in this town and state but most of my career and income has been derived outside of the state. Compensation for highly educated executives and professionals is among the lowest in the country. And, the Maine legislature has never seen a proposed tax increase it didn't like!! [read more...]
