Meets well in the middle - 3/31/2013

I grew up in Waldorf and my mother still lives there. I've been around to a lot of places on the east coast and no where ever seems to feel as comfortable as being there. It's true that you cannot walk and the summers are unbearable, but it has everything that a family just starting off may need. It's only about 40 minutes from DC (without the traffic) and has become a very popular place for corporate business, seeing as the mall is constantly being updated now and there's always some shopping center being built or renovated. The town of St. Charles just began a huge renovation project with a lot of affordable living which has brought in a lot of people from the north, better known as PG county, which is well known for being far from grand. This has really helped boost the area financially but has taken a toll on the crime and schools. I went to high school in the area and have first hand knowledge of kids coming from a terrible school system and taking advantage of the southern hospitality of the school staff. There's also a lot of drug trafficking that has lead to some slight gang-like activity. Overall, I love this area. It's a perfect mix between the sweet warm farming communities south of it and the busy street life of DC, making it a hub between the two. Great place to start a family, but definitely not the kind of place you'd want to live in for longer than 5-10 years, or until you could afford to move to a nicer DC suburb.[read more...]

Southern Maryland - 8/19/2010

I have lived in Southern Maryland most of my life. My family and I hate it here, the cost of living is way to high, schools are getting worse everyday, and the crime...lets not even talk about that. Sure we are close to DC, but who in there right mind wants to be around that mess. Can't wait to move!!![read more...]

Spouse that struggles...what's my rights? - 7/15/2009

This ecomony is a big impact to everyone. From financial, marriage, bankruptcy...you name it. Now really what amazes me is the big thing. When someone has nowhere to turn too. I thought there's always authorities that you can rely on. Not in Waldorf. I am silent now and solve it myself. Struggling financially that even my own office; i no longer belong. My best shot is keeping my mind clear and believe that every problem has a solution. Waldorf? The authorities needs to look and pay a better attention to families that needing assistance specially when childrens are involve. Hopefully someday I could share some input on how to resolve a problem thats been ignored.[read more...]

Extremely Poor Quality of Life - 1/28/2009

Waldorf has suffered from runnaway growth and poorly planned development. The town is a traffic nighmare and an eyesore. There is nothing but strip malls and traffic lights for miles and miles. Furthermore, as stated in a recent article in the Washington Post, the stores in Waldorf carry only the lowest quality merchandise - think dollar store quality. So, despite the miles and miles of strip malls, residents must travel outside the county to purchase acceptable quality goods. Finally, to top it all off - there has been a dramatic increase in the number of violent crimes committed in Waldorf. If you plan to live in Waldorf, you'll need to purchase an alarm system and lock your doors at night. I recently moved away and my stress level has decreased dramatically while my sense of happiness and well being has increased significantly.[read more...]

We've lived here for 5 yrs. Mixed of different cultures and views of life. My proffession is public service (REAL ESTATE)I'm affiliated with Century 21 H.T. Brown. I'm Tess Bonaguro originally from the Philippines. Bilingual and customer service orientated. We migrated here 15 years ago. Proud to be the Mother of a 19 yrs old full Filipino blood who dedicated himself to serve this country for our Freedom. Waldorf is a fun place to be. Minutes from DC/VA (old town Alexandria). So many jobs sorrounding the area. A new Harbour mall just opened up and more business that still in progress and soon to be in operation. Andrews/Bolling AFB is 30min/max in distance. Reagan Int'l airport is about 45 minutes. So many things to do and things to see. If you’re RELOCATING or RETIRING; This is a great place to be. [read more...]

The Millionaire Next Door (Rich in Quality of Life - 9/6/2007

First of all, Maryland is a great place to live! Even though Maryland has been determined to be the wealthiest state in the U.S. by the census bureau; Waldorf, my quiet, unassuming small town is growing by leaps and bounds and may lose that "small town" flavor pretty soon. Considered good by some, in that we get to share the wealth; considered bad by others, in that a little of the "small town" advantages may be sacrificed. In the meantime, I'll continue to enjoy the advantages of living in a suburban neighborhood where I can enjoy my space, scenic wooded views, wildlife, friendly neighbors and lots of peace and quiet; while still having the luxury of getting in my car and driving 3 miles to all of the shopping, education, medical care, culture, and more that I ever wanted. For now, I'm enjoying the best of both (Urban/Suburban) worlds. I'm living the simple life of having everything. Sincerely, Cheryl Just your average everyday "happy neighbor" in Waldorf.[read more...]

Living in Waldorf - 5/20/2007

This is a close to perfect place to live. The Good: education, people, close to the city w/o city life, shopping, eating, safety, housing, very clean. I moved to this area of Md from the city and I love it we first bought resale then built after we were sure this was were we wanted to be. The Bad: racism, jobs, rush hr. traffic, hot humid summer, depressing winters. For good gov jobs or tech jobs of course you need to go to the city and to go to the city means rush hr traffic jams that turns an average 30min commute to the city into an hr to hr and a half commute. I personally don't like extreme weather so harsh heat and extreme colds bother me.There are traces of racism in schools and hospitality venues but not with law enforcement which surprised me. There are traces of old backward thinkig people but I beleive they will all be gone soon. This area was primarly country now it has become a booming metro area now all we need are the large corp to boost higher income jobs. For now we will travel to Washington D.C. [read more...]

Life in Maryland - 8/3/2006

If you like to get cut off, or have someone ride on your back bumper, or sit behind someone driving 15 MPH slower then the posted speed limit in the left lane, and sit in traffic for long periods of time then Maryland is just the place for you!!, Also as a bonus we here have some of the highest cost of housing in the country you'll be paying on average close to $300,000.00 for a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom town house, or $600,000.00 for a new 4 bed, 3 bath house with NO yard, but you can smell your neighbors farts when they let them as the special added bonus because the houses are so close together!! And here's the real catcher you'll be making about the countries average income just $44,000.00 per year, SO COME ON TO MARYLAND and become some of the most self centered, uncurtious people on the planet. You'll be better off living in the Mid-West where you could count on you neighbor when the chips are down, and not robbed by them[read more...]

Life here bites - 7/27/2006

It's hot and sticky and the traffic doesn't move....Everywhere you go it's a crowd of people. I don't think anyone in Waldorf cooks at home anymore. If you go to dinner there's a line, if you go to a movie you might not get a ticket to see it. Crime is everywhere burglaries, robberies, homicides, most is drug related. People are rude to each other and they are really rude in traffic. It wouldn't be so hard to get around if everyone would obey the traffic regulations. People!!! don't enter an intersection if there is NO room for your car on the other side! What makes you think you're so special that you can block the intersection and keep others from going where they need to go??? What makes you so special that you feel it's ok to park in a fire lane in front of a store so your passenger can go inside while you wait??? What a bunch of self centered egotistical non-caring butt heads there are in this town. I'm looking for a nicer place to live....[read more...]
