Living in Longmeadow - 3/7/2010

Upscale suburb of Springfield, Ma. Located near routes that make for easy North-South and East-West access to bigger cities (Hartford/Boston; airport (Bradley International); and the Berkshires. School system is desirable and athletic teams are always some of the best in the state (lacrosse, soccer, hockey, basketball). Plenty of sidewalks for jogging and biking. Good family community without. No real crime problems. The down side is housing costs and taxes relative to other Western Mass communities (though still cheaper than Ct). Most housing is older so plan on maintenance costs and higher energy bills. [read more...]

West Springfield, MA
best in the area - 8/11/2009

The Greater Springfield area definitely lacks some amenities but if you choose to live here Longmeadow is the best town, hands down. Best schools, no crime, good programs for kids, sidewalks throughout (you can see people jogging, walking and biking all the time), great access to highways and shopping, real pride of homeownership and sense of community. It does have the highest home values but you get what you pay for, I guess.[read more...]

Good place for kids to grow up! - 7/28/2009

While the schools may be a little cliquey, the overall safety, education, and cleanliness is among the best in western mass. My family moved from Spfld to Longmeadow when I was 12- (my mom wanted to get her kids out before we were teens) Kids can walk around town without worry of being robbed or kidnapped! (I'm not saying things like that will never happen there, but in my experience, they never did!) People say hello when they walk by you! Growing up there, friends of mine complained about wanting to get out b/c it was little, etc. But now they wish they could go back! It's a good town for young families with kids.[read more...]
