Don't do it! - 4/13/2006
Turner's Falls and the surrounding area (including Northampton and Amherst) may have great potential, but it could take about 20 years and a billion dollars to realize it. The Pioneer Valley on the whole is highly overrated--after spending five years here my family and I are calling it quits. Little or no diversity, lots of rednecks, bad drivers, and mediocre food. Potential - 4/1/2006
Turners Falls(formerly known as Great Falls) is cursed by a great potential.
Some of the lowest housing costs in the Pioneer Valley. Half an hour to Amherst and Northampton. (The 5 College area in general PLUS Greenfield Community College) It's set right on the Connecicut River. 90 minutes to Boston.
A beautiful wide commercial avenue with wonderful architecture.
Unfortunatly there is little to no culture available except for the Shea Theater(again, great potential)
The economic boom has pretty much missed the area and the town seems to have done little to change the perception that it is a depressed community with a drug problem. (The recent addition downtown of subsidised housing for recovering addicts doesnt help)[read more...] |
