Quality of life - 9/25/2010

Metamora Township is horse country. The topography is rolling hills, heavy forest, and acres and acres of land. Everywhere you go, you will see horse farms and old dairy farms. This is a beautiful place to live! When you drive the backroads, you will travel down old dirt roads that go on for miles and miles. Additionally, a lot of people have hot air balloons in Metamora Township. When weather conditions are right, it is not uncommon to see hot air balloons drifting over the hills and meadows. Likewise, on the last weekend in August, the city of Metamora holds a hot air balloon festival. Visitors can watch the balloons launch as well as visit the balloons up close. Metamora is also home to The White Horse Inn. The oldest restaurant in Michigan. The restaurant adds charm and character to the downtown. The prices are reasonable and the food is delicious. We just moved here from the suburbs and we are amazed by the bright, blue skies and the clear, crisp air. The air quality is so much better than in the suburbs. Similarly, Metamora is conveniently located between Lapeer and Oxford. From the southern part of the township, Oxford is about 10 minutes south and Lapeer is about 15 minutes north. (Both Lapeer and Oxford are very nice towns.) They have full grocery stores as well as Home Depot, Big Lots, and many others. The people are friendly here (they wave to you as they pass by), but because most of the lots include acreage, you can go for a long time without seeing your neighbor. This is a very nice place to live. [read more...]

The township is also close to Oxford, Michigan, which is quaint and bristling with life. [read more...]
